Sensational Alex Harvey Band
When I started listening to some more lesser known 70's bands deemed glam recently I discovered the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. They're not particularly glam but a mixture of styles which surprised me.
Oddly I never heard of these guys before but after hearing several things I think they could of been pretty influential. The way Alex Harvey sings and his lyrics remind me of Bon Scott of AC/DC at times. I did some reading and found- Bon turned Angry Anderson on to Scottish rock singer Alex Harvey and encouraged the Rose Tattoo singer to consider himself as a "rock poet." Not much else written online, but it confirmed to me who one of Bon's obvious idols was.
The guitarist Zal Cleminson is a very good musician. The gibson sg he plays has a similar tone to Angus Young. Did that white-face pierrot make-up influence Kiss at all? It just seems odd that this band was around right as Kiss were still figuring out what they wanted to do. They toured the US several times without making much of an impact aside from Cleveland from what I understand. They opened for Slade on tour and what I've read totally upstaged them.
Is anyone on here fans of these guys at all?

I ran across them because Nick Cave does a Hammer Song cover. Heard it a couple years back and dabble with their music here and there.

I'm only familiar with them due to bass player Chris Glen and drummer Ted McKenna - they were both in the Michael Schenker Group in the 80's.

give them a shot, I've never seen another band quite like them. Alex Harvey is an interesting guy.

check out the song "Gang Bang" posted above I totally thought of AC/DC sleaze like "Big Balls" when I first heard that. Both Harvey and Scott were Scottish, heavy drinkers and were in multiple bands. It would of been interesting to see some sort of collaboration between those two.

Seems so random why they'd have a following in Cleveland - from Wikipedia:
Also, he passed away at a young age (same month as Bon, but two years later):
The band never achieved acclaim in the United States the way it did in Great Britain, but it had a cult following in certain U.S. cities, especially Cleveland. SAHB made their debut in Cleveland at the Agora Ballroom in December 1974. Thanks to airplay from WMMS-FM, songs like "Next" and "The Impossible Dream" became very popular. Cleveland music critics observed that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band could headline in that city, while in other cities, few people came to see them
On 4 February 1982 while waiting to take a ferry back to shore after performing his last concert with his new band, the Electric Cowboys, Harvey suffered a massive heart attack. In an ambulance on the way to the hospital, he suffered a second heart attack, this one fatal. It occurred on the day before his 47th birthday, in Zeebrugge, Belgium. When he died, he left his wife, Trudy, and two sons

I've just got into Alex Harvey too. I was listening to Eddie and The Hot Rods on spotify and it recommended Alex Harvey. Robert Smith from The Cure and Greg Macainsh from Skyhooks (another scott perhaps judging from his name) also are big fans.
