2011 MTV Movie Awards

Will anyone be watching tonight? I hate to say I probably will, but it feels like its going to be worthless since they will keep giving every award they can to the Twilight Series.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

I had forgotten that this had become the Twilight awards and I'm not sure if that better or worse then when it was the Jim Carrey/Will Smith awards which was the era in which I stopped watching it.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

First time in years that I haven't worked it. Feels weird watching it from home as a viewer.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Yeah...I've been referring to this as the Third Annual Twilight Awards.

Also, looking forward to see if anyone is nominated for a movie that has not come out like Angelina Jolie was last year.

"Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet" was ditched as a category this year. I think it was replaced with Most Jaw-Dropping Moment.

And the Twilight stuff has always been a concern for us behind the scenes but there's really nothing we could do because it's voted on by the fans. Hopefully Potter and some others will break through though.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Well, I loved Sudekis's monologue. I thought it was pretty damn funny.

Then the first award was 'Best Male Performance' and Robert Pattinson won, so I changed the channel.

Wow. Not even a person that watched and maybe enjoyed the movie would even consider his an award winning performance.

Even worse, one of the people he was nominated against was Jessie Eisenberg (for The Social Network).

Actually, I was referring to the Bggest Badass Star category. Angelina Jolie was nominated in 2010 before Salt had come out yet. And while the award wasn't technically for a specific movie, her last movie, Wanted, came out in 2008. And they showed clips of Salt when announcing the nominees.

Watching the show now and Justin Bieber won Most Jaw-Dropping Momemnt...WTF? Is there any question that teenage girls do the majority of the voting?

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

So how is this different then the Kid Choice/Teen Choice awards? The MTV Movie awards at least used to be fun but now it's just a reminder of how old I am and I think even a person in their early 20's probably feels the same way.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Well, like I said, I stopped watching...

But someone just said on another forum I read that a fight from Eclipse beat the hallway fight from Inception for 'Best Fight'.
Also, Eclipse beat Black Swan's lesbian scene for 'Best Kiss'.

So we still have two more years before the MTV Movie Awards can be free from this Twilight shit?

And strangely enough Pattinson saying "Fuck" got on the air uncensored on the live broadcast.

It also beat out Kick-Ass (Hit Girl vs Frank D'Amico) and The Fighter (Charlene Fleming vs the sisters). Obviously, it is just teenage girls voting for these things because Kristen Stewart won over Natalie Portman.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

I think the last time I really watched and enjoyed the MTV Movie Awards is when they gave a lifetime achievement award to Clint Howard, as that was a hilareous moment and when the show peaked.

Re: 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Reading this thread makes me glad I didn't waste my time watching this. Shame, I remember when the MTV Movie Awards were fun. Hell, the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards this year was entertaining (Willow Smith notwithstanding) and I'm not even remotely in the target demographic anymore.

I flipped back and forth until the Foo were on. They rocked.

I did see one other thing and Justin Timberlake is a VERY lucky man.

I think the shift in demographic for the network is what sort of kills it for me. Back in the 80s/90s it seemed like they were programming for a college age/young adult audience, which just happened to also appeal to high school kids. Now it feels like they are primarily targeting the high school/middle school audience.

And have they always let viewers vote on every category? I could have sworn there was originally only one or two categories that were decided by viewers.
