How many movies have you seen in theaters in your lifetime?
I have saved my stubs since around 1985, so I can ballpark it (as you all should).
But, be honest, if you really thought about it, about how many have you seen in theaters in your lifetime?
565...I will say based on stubs collected and the ones prior (though little less probably more accurate).
Chances are, in roughly 40 years of life, you won't have seen nearly 1,000, if not much less.
Please vote and post.

1985? You're old
I'd say I've averaged anywhere from 30-40 per year since 2000, plus childhood...hmm, I'd venture to say 450. I don't think I'm going to come anywhere close to the 35 I average this year, I've only seen 3 movies in theaters so far (due to the lack of quality, imo)

We used to average between 35-40 movies a year at the theaters, So over 400 I would think. Maybe close to 500.
Now with the birth of our son, I've only seen 2 movies lol

Re: How many movies have you seen in theaters in your lifetime?
I always make the mistake of saying "I HAVE to see that!" only to put it off and put it off and then miss it entirely until it hit VHS or now DVD and Blu-ray.
As a result I've seen maybe - maybe 50 or under in theaters and having to make up for it at home, only to sit there and say "DAMN why didn't I see this in theaters?"
Stupid, but completely true.

I'm going to guess around 5-600? I have a good number of my stubs dating from 1998, so I can estimate from that number. Plus I worked at a theater for a summer and got in for free there for around 4 years after the fact, so that may spike the numbers a bit.

According to the poll, I've seen more movies at film festivals alone than half the people here have seen in total.

I've got a list on IMDb of the movies I've seen on a big screen. Currently, the total is 362.
Growing up, we didn't have a theater in my small town. Our parents divorced when I wasn't quite 5, and mom didn't have the time, money or energy to take us to a lot of movies in Louisville but we made it to more than I initially thought. Once I started reconstructing this list from memory I kept thinking of other movies we'd gone to see at the second-run $1 theater as kids. In 1995, we finally got a theater here and by then I was in my teens and I went often with my friends to see movies. I kept my stubs from then on (though I lost a lot of them in a recent move; fortunately I'd already become so OCD I had created a list).
My total of 362 includes some movies I've seen more than once, and it does not currently include short films (though I'm about to add those; I just kept forgetting to do it) screened before the main features that I've seen. I've been very happy that a theater in Louisville does bi-weekly midnight screenings of things with cult followings; lots of stuff to appeal to the nostalgia of my generation. For instance, I didn't get to see Dick Tracy until it hit VHS, but two years ago I finally got to see it in a theater. Last October I got to see Ghostbusters. There have been a lot more screenings of movies that I wanted to attend but my stupid guts didn't let me (still annoyed over missing Superman). It's still just as thrilling to me when the lights dim and trailers begin as it was when I was a kid.

Probably somewhere in the 500-600 range.

I actually researched this last year by going over the yearly charts at Box Office Mojo. It wasn't too difficult to recall everything I'd seen before the age of 10, as my family only went to the movies a few times a year back then.
Anyway, starting from 1987 (when I was two) I've concluded that I've have seen 372 movies on the big screen so far.

I'm guessing the 1000+ are those who worked in moviehouses.
I'm guessing I saw 50 by the time I was 10, another 150 until I was 20, and another 200 since then.

My guess was 400-500, I think that's about right. At this pace I would hit 1,000 by the time I am 40.

Re: How many movies have you seen in theaters in your lifetime?
Well, I've had many more years of doing this than the rest of you, so I'm well over 1000. By the time I graduated high school, I'd seen over well over 300 movies in theaters. And then in college, I started hitting revival theaters to see old movies. With student discounts and student memberships, and the sheer number of rep houses in New York at the time, there were periods where I went to see movies every day. So I'm pretty sure I hit 1000 at least by the time I graduated college. And that was 35 years ago this spring. I slowed down considerably after college, but I'm certain I'm well over 3000 by now. I've actually compiled lists of everything I've seen, so I could come up with a ballpark figure if I take the time to count them all.
