The usual deal:

Wednesday: 90 minute performance show

Thursday: Overbloated boring 1 hour results show

If Heat's around, he can add any additional details that he knows. I watch the show, but not as hardcore as him.

Really Arminius? Voting in the Poll before the show aired?

Heads up to fans of Pia, she'll be performing on the Results Show of Dancing with the Stars next week (4/26).

I still think Haley looks like adult, uh, performer, Tabitha Stern.

That probably keeps me watching

Oh good grief. Yes, she has a good voice and probably didn't deserve to go home so early, but come on... She's getting a bigger push than the eventual winner will probably get.

She's got a better recording voice than any of the contestants left. At the point, the only contestant I'm even curious to watch is Haley, and she's so hit or miss on performance night.

I beg to differ. She is definitely hotter than any of the remaining contestants, though. Let's all cut the shit, though. Like 85% of the uproar and attention she has gotten since her dismissal is not because of how fucking supposedly wonderful her voice is. Granted, it is a nice voice, but in the annals of the show, it aint really all that (with or without the accompanying bag of potato chips).

It's all opinion, but here my take:

Casey has weird affectations in his performances.
Scotty is not my style of music (even the country artists I like)
Pia's voice is much purer than Lauren's.
Jacob has all his histrionics.
Stefano is dull and broadway.
James is mostly performance not vocals.

As for past seasons, I wasn't talking about past seasons; I was talking about this season. I'm not all that impressed with this year's "talent". It part of the reason I'll be done with this year once Nigel drums Haley out of the competition.

Pia has a nice voice, but I seriously doubt I'll be buying a Pia album.

Swinging was from '82 (John Anderson).

Yeah, it's really sad how they take giant broad categories and still need to reach on a song.

Bottom three should be Scotty, Jacob, Stephen with Scotty going home. It will be Stephen, Jacob, Haley, with Stephen going home.

I think Paul could possibly have some success, but never, ever, let him try to sing with a real singer again.

Re: American Idol -- Top 7 -- Songs from the 21st Century -- April 20/21

Where is Simon Cowell? Good Lord, did he take Randy's common sense with him when he left?
For me, the only one who can actually sing is Haley.
James Durban keeps my attention.
The rest? El Stink-O.
I just don't get the lovefest w/ Casey. He peaked at week 3.
Stefano peaked at week one.
Lauren isn't going to get any better, the same w/ Scotty. They're not terrible, but they keep singing the same exact song week after week.
Poor Luther Vandross is rolling over in his grave after listening to Jacob butcher his song.

Don't blame Jacob, the irony of it being Luther's birthday would have been too hard for anyone to overcome.

I am so bored with Scotty..yes,he has a great country voice, can we agree he will have a great career, and now vote him off the show? He seriously is hard to watch. He went from reminding me of Alfred E. Neuman to those bears at Country Bear Jamboree from Disney. You know the animated ones with the eyebrows going up and down? He was the worst of the night, but he wont even land in the bottom 3.

What is playing in the earpiece that some of them have on during their performance? Jacob mentioned hearing drums and losing the "track"?? What is that all about?? Anybody know?

Re: American Idol -- Top 7 -- Songs from the 21st Century -- April 20/21

I'm not a regular with this show. Don't make a point to watch it, but once in awhile we'll settle in for lack of anything better. I've seen two episodes this season, and Haley has been far and away the best in both I've seen, yet all the judges seem to act like she should be grateful just to be there. This country kid that everyone seems to love just seems intolerable. And the rock dude completely butchered a great Muse song tonight and they acted like he did something great. And then that country girl at the end seems to have just a great voice with tons of character, and they're telling her to ditch that and try to scream out notes? WTF?

The judging just doesn't make any sense to me. It's all backwards. To me, it seems like everything they say is wrong.

I thought Jacob, Scotty and Stefano were the worst tonight. I hope Stefano goes home tomorrow night. If Haley goes instead of him I'll be pissed. Stefano has overstayed his welcome.

This I knew. Yet the judges let him get away with it as a "LeAnn Rimes" song from whenever she released it -- I don't know. Don't know her version but did she change up the lyrics or still sang about this Charlotte girl she was swingin' with?

Debra Byrd talked about this in an interview. They can hear themselves sing. They can choose to only hear their vocals, or some of/all the instruments playing.

Re: American Idol -- Top 7 -- Songs from the 21st Century -- April 20/21

I agree with every post above...even if they contradict each other!! (except I'm not familiar with Tabitha Stern's 'work'...an obvious gap in my education).

Honestly, it's a real indictment of the show when the DVDTalk thread is scientifically proven to be 983% more entertaining than the actual show. The 'performances' last night were uniformly HORRIBLE. Randy is right...ANYBODY can win this season (they're on an equal footing...and that ain't a good thing).

Steven Tyler is working overtime to confirm the stereotype of rock stars as idiots. "God said that all men are created equal". It's sad when you see an aging old maven (he looks just like the character "The Major" in Big Love's final season...or a senior version Ziggy Stardust) who is so totally out of his element (and knows it) that he tries to justify his appearances by grabbing J-Lo's mike, making upskirt comments about a teen, and repeatedly swearing to try to prove his 'relevance'. Pathetic, man. You're about to lose your membership card in the cool rocker dudes club.

Dang...the parts of this season I've seen (lately, recaps or snips during Survivor commercial breaks followed by the last 30 minutes...how much filler can they show?) has really achieved what I thought was impossible...

I'm really looking forward to X-Factor this fall.
