Re: Kino $9.99 sale
They never have enough titles I want in those sales to get the free shipping. It actually takes 6 to get over $50 since they're $9.99 ea...............
This one was the closest yet, there are 4 I could use
The Blue Bird
Dementia
The Norma Talmadge Collection
Way Down East (assuming it is a significant upgrade from the Image edition I already own)
& a 5th I'd consider
Edgar G. Ulmer: The Man Off-Screen
But no 6th (I already own the Joan Crawford title, Sudden Fear ).

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
Dementia is definitely worth getting, even if you have to pay shipping; the Daughter Of Horror version features narration by Ed McMahon, which gives it an entirely new and appealing dimension.

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
Kino needs to get serious about their sales. All of their titles are overpriced, yet the sales only include a handful. Kino quality is usually subpar, yet they continue to charge Criterion prices. No wonder I have so few Kino titles.

Agreed. I USED to buy a lot of Kino until I discovered MOC.

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
Okay did some price shopping and this was the cheapest price even with the high cost of shipping and I'm very interested in experiencing this film so I bit the bullet and ordered one!

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
I was hoping to find Nosferatu, The Golem, Faust, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in this sale. They never seem to go below $10. Is there by chance equal/better versions available elsewhere?

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
I'm pretty sure the picture in the sale logo is Ben Turpin, yet none of the titles on sale actually include a Ben Turpin movie? I could be wrong about that, but none jump out at me. I know he has been in L&H shorts, but nothing that is included in the Oliver Hardy Collection... I just find it odd that they'd use an unrelated picture...

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
The UK MOC Nosferatu & Faust are slightly higher quality then the Kino's. Haven't seen the MOC of Golem or Caligari; but 99% of the top the MOC will be better than the Kino.

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
That's true in almost all cases but not so with Nosferatu, IMO. According to DvdBeaver the Kino is sharper and after looking at all the screen captures I preferred the Kino so I bought it. I am considering picking up the MOC for the extras. However, I did prefer the MOC of Faust so I bought it directly from Eureka.

BTW, while this has nothing to do with the ot, I just finished watching an advance of MOC's Fritz Lang's Indian Epic. The only differences I can see between the USA Image & the new MOC are the color is a bit more vivid on the MOC & the MOC has the Peter Kallet commentary & the short documentary (which I haven't gotten to yet) . The color artifacts at the beginning of some scenes (color briefly lightening & darkening) are equally present on both versions.
IMO, if you already own the Image/Fantamo don't spend the money; if you don't have it yet the MOC is somewhat superior.

I keep looking at this one. Wish they had a lower free shipping threshold!

I saw Daughter Of Horror on TCM last night. Is Dementia particularly better or worse than Daughter?

Re: Kino $9.99 sale
I decided to pick up the new Ingrid Bergman box, which pushed me over $50, so I bit:
Dementia (plus Daughter of Horror)
Ingrid Bergman in Sweden (Intermezzo, June Night, A Woman's Face)
Kiki / Within the Law
Way Down East
$59.93 total
I am SUCH an addict! I already have the Fox Lorber version of June Night & the Image of Way Down East (sigh).

They are terrible to their customers, as for replying to e-mails - they need to take a page from Criterion's business model and quit being dicks to people that pay high prices for their poorly designed films.
I actually came here to ask if anyone else have noticed all the Kino sale banners around the web? seems like everywhere I go the banner is there.

They're also unbelievably slow.
Ordered 5/28
Scheduled for delivery on 6/11.
They must have picked some weird Fed Ex shipping. Per the tracking It's currently sitting 30 miles from my house at Fed Ex, but is not scheduled to be delivered for 4 more days.
