Joystiq: Resident Evil: Revival Selection brings RE4 and Code Veronica to 360, PS3
PFFFFSSSS!
Sorry, but that's the closest onomatopoeia we could come up with for the sound of confetti coming out of a giant cannon. What's the occasion? Why, it's the one millionth port of Resident Evil 4! It's a big honor, and it goes to Biohazard (Resident Evil): Revival Selection, a set of high-definition updates of RE 4 and Code Veronica, that Famitsu says is headed to 360 and PS3. According to Andriasang, the full title may be "Resident Evil Revival Selection HD Remastered Version," and fair warning: If we have to type that out in full every time, we'll never cover this game again.
The updates, which have only been announced for Japan at the moment, will feature RE 4's bonus Ada Wong scenario, "Separate Ways."
Dirk the Daring was unavailable as of press time to comment on the possibility of these upstarts shattering his record. That said, if any STARS agents come up missing, we'll make Singe's belly the first spot we check.
---
Loving this news. RE4 was my favorite game from the last generation, and I must have played through it at least a couple dozen times. Every now and get the urge to play it again but can't because I sold off my GameCube, don't have a Wii, and don't have it for PS2. And as such I've never played Separate Ways, either. Definitely in for this as long as it comes to the states and isn't $60 at launch.

CV and RE4 had 3D environments.
The rest didn't.
That's probably why.

No way. 2 was by far the best in the series. The alligator in the sewer still haunts me to this day.
2 > 1 > CV > 3 > 4 > 5
What I would really like to see is a port of the remake of 1 that they did for Gamecube to 360/PS3 and maybe similar remakes of 2 and 3 in the same vein. I don't know if that is possible though since I believe Nintendo published the remake and holds the rights to it.

^ that's silly - everyone knows that #4 was easily the best in the series and still holds up well.
1&2 may have been great when they first came out, but you try playing them now, and they're practically antiquated junk.

4 was a good game but a bad RE game. 4 was an action game, not a survival horror game.

The Remake of the first one on GCN is pretty awesome though.

I have the entire series on Gamecube (except #5 on 360), so I think they would have to do some huge updates to the stiff and outdated gameplay for me to upgrade.

I'd love if this happened.
Mostly because I sold my Nintendo Wii earlier this year, so I haven't been able to play RE4.

Anyway, I'd vote it this way.
Remake, RE2, RE1, CV, RE 3, RE4, Zero, RE 5 - (Junk)
It's too bad that we weren't full on with Hd graphics when they made the remake. It still a nice looking game though.

This is great news if true. CV has always been my favorite in the series. The remake of 1 for GC was also great.

I'm curious as to why everyone seems to hate 5. I haven't played it yet, but isn't it basically just an improved version of 4's game mechanics?

No, graphics aside, 5 was actually a step back from 4, especially as far as mechanics are concerned. But what mostly killed it was the forced co-op mechanic, which while just fine for co-op, played horribly as a single-player experience.

I'll probably download RE4 for Xbox, despite the fact that I've owned it on both Gamecube (I think it was Gamecube but might have been PS2) and Wii, and haven't yet made it more than about 30 minutes into the game due to the horrible controls leading to a quick pitchforking by villagers every time.
I liked RE5 and finished it 3 times solo, even on Professional mode. I thought it played fine as a single-player experience.
Maybe the Xbox controller just works better for me when it comes to this series.

IMO, RE2 is still the best of the franchise. CV is in close second and 4 rounds off the top 3.
I was never all that keen on #1 -- always got insanely bored of it long before it was over.

I did just replay 1-3 a few months ago and enjoyed them every bit as much as when I first played them back in the 90s. I do agree that most PS1/N64 games don't hold up to the test of time, but the RE games do hold up.
4 was a good game but a bad RE game. 4 was an action game, not a survival horror game.

Fuck yeah. Slightly aged...but still works and looks fine.

Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica HD ports coming to NA as downloads this fall
If you're interested in the HD versions of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X included in the Resident Evil: Revival Selection, you'll be able to acquire them in an exceptionally convenient manner: through Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.
Capcom just announced that the two ports will be released as downloads in North America this fall -- as separate games, as opposed to the bundled release Capcom is planning for Japan.

I honestly liked the Wii controls on RE4 so much more than the others that I'd be much more likely to buy ports to that system than the 360.
I've played, but never finished, 1, 2, 3 and CV, due to the tank-like controls.

What I'd really love is remakes of 1,2, and 3 (I'd take 0 and CV as well, but less important) in the first person view of 4/5, but with improved play mechanics... steal some things from Dead Space, especially the move-and-shoot ability.
