Pee-wee Herman on Broadway (HBO 3/19/11)
This is the most anticipated TV event for me in years. Can't wait to see the return of Pee-Wee.

Looking forward to this. Does he age?

Awesome! Thanks for posting. I had been anticipating Rebeuns return as Pee-wee, but knew I'd never be able to get to Los Angeles or New York, so it being shown on HBO is perfect. And based on the brief clips of him in the trailer and what we saw on the SNL Skit, it looks like he's still perfectly capable of playing Pee-wee, so I'm anticipating his return even more. Since this is being shown on HBO, it means a DVD release probably won't be too far off either.

Thanks for posting the FunnyOrDie Video Super J. It's great to see Paul Reubens being so enthusiastically welcomed back as Pee-wee by so many people. And to think, not too long ago everyone sort of turned on Reubens and Pee-wee was basically forced into exile. Glad to have him back and can't wait to see the HBO Special. Hopefully the movies he's been talking about for a while get made, as I'd love to see Pee-wee on the big screen again.

I saw the LA show as well and agree that it is wonderful. I am thinking about doing a double feature with the Roxy show that night. Could be a blast.

I DVR'd it and watched it yesterday, once the whole nostalgia wore off, I had to fast forward through the last 1/2 hour of it.

It has the basic plot of the Roxy show, but I'd say it's about 80-90% new material. Miss Yvonne's part was identical and Cowboy Curtis was pretty close to Captain Karl and most of Mailman Mike was the same, but it seems like the rest was all new. Very funny.

Some childhood memories should stay just that...memories. This was a chore to sit through. The funniest part of the night was when it ended my 7-year-old nephew turned and said "Well, that was annoying."

For people who had seen the original Roxy show, it was certainly identical.
This was definitely more for people who grew up with Playhouse on Sat mornings who probably never saw the original version but now get to view it with all the new characters that had since been invented. But there was so much new material put in I really enjoyed it even though you knew just how things were supposed to go.
But seeing Chair E, Conky, Magic Screen, and all of them again in this iteration, that was just great.
But man did Miss Yvonne age where Paul Reubens hasn't. Phil Lamarr as Cowboy Curits was good too but you just wonder (even though you knew he couldn't do it) if someone actually asked Lawrence Fishburne if he wanted to come back.
And the King of Cartoons introducing a new Penny short was a great surprise!

Maybe it helped that I was in my 20s during Pee Wee's heyday. He's like an old friend returning rather than part of my childhood I outgrew.
Oh, and Lawrence Fishburn showed up at a few L.A. shows.

Saw this on Broadway in December and it was absolutely fantastic. I've never had this much fun at the theater.

No, I think it was a "bring him on the stage and cheer" thing. Even though it's "Cowboy Curtis", Fishburne hadn't played this particular part before, because it's really Captain Karl.
I did find this answering the original question.

I watched a 20 min. chunk of this yesterday. I was amused by what I saw, but once that nostalgic feeling started to wear off I decided I'd come back to it later. I am amazed at how little Reubens seems to age. It was great seeing the set last night.
