Rutger Hauer Is Van Helsing In Dario Argento's DRACULA 3D
Wasn't very excited about this till Hauer came aboard. Think Dario can pull it off?

Heard about this the other day. I'm an admitted Argento fanboy, and while I haven't loved everything he's done, I have enjoyed most of it. Hauer is a welcomed addition to the cast. I always have faith that Argento can pull off something good.
Still skeptical on the 3D though.

Not sure how I feel about Argento doing a Dracula movie. I grew up with his classics but after that......

Argento hasn't made a good, or even stylish, film in years, and this will probably be no better than his Phantom of the Opera silliness. While Rutger Hauer playing Van Helsing may make some look forward to a Dario Argento Dracula film, with me it's different - the inclusion of Dario Argento makes me not look forward to a Rutger vs Dracula flick.

I completely misread the OP's comment and was replying in defence of Hauer's prowess as a thespian, when in fact the OP's comment was complimentary of Hauer.

This sounds like it could be amazing. Argento - one of the best horror director around - matched with Hauer - one of the acting world's finest. They just need a good script and this should rock!

I will await the eventual Direct to DVD relase of this new Argento classic in 2015 after setting on the shelf for 4 years and being released after someone in the cast dies.
Argento hasn't made a good film since the early 80's. Sorry but if you can't get one of the "fanboy" labels (Lionsgate, Blue Underground, Anchor Bay, Synapse) to pick up your latest film and you get sued because your to cheap to pay the only name you had attached to the film then you sir SUCK BALLS.

No. It was just gore for gore's sake and alot of nasty sex. He actually decided to make it after he made the Masters of Horror episode Jenifer and based alot of it around what he did in that film

I don't think Argento has ever made a good movie. He had the good fortune to work with Goblin and some good photographers which gave those 70's flicks just enough stylish weirdness to develop some cult appeal but that's about it. He never had any talent for directing or storytelling, IMO.

Maybe I shouldn't have said he's never made a good film when I haven't seen them all, but I feel like I've seen enough to where I'm probably right.
I've seen The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, Cat O' Nine Tails, Deep Red, Suspiria, and Inferno. All were pretty good looking and atmospheric films as far as it goes, but that's about it.

yes the old Argento is fantastic.
Deep Red is a classic, please keep in mind that much of what Argento attempts to to gets left on the editing floor. Producers and studios always end up blocking his vision, like most film productions.
If you want to know more about Argento read "Dario Argento" by James Gracey.
The book came out in 2010.
