Re: The Cape -- "The Lich (Part 1)" -- 02/14/11
It was an okay episode but this is the first time I felt that everyone involved (writers, director, actors) were working real hard to make people hate it. The business with the missing heir was way contrived (even for a cheesy comic book) and beyond convoluted (ditto).
Then there was the conversation in the park bench. "Take a bite from your sandwich". Yes, that's gonna keep your tail from noticing that we're leaning in close to have a long conversation and even pass around pictures and files. Who would suspect anything after you bite into a sandwich?
They even managed to be anticlimactic with the Cape turning to his trecherous ex partner. The teamup felt very matter-of-fact with only a few growled lines to show off how pissed Faraday is at this guy. And how does his partner not recognize him when he makes absolutely no effort to mask his voice.
They even pulled the cliché of no one bothering unmask the hero. Not even an aborted attempt from one of the other cops. I get it's a comic book trope but it felt totally misshandled in this episode.
Finally, the action was few and far between but what they did have was shot terribly and edited even worse.

Love the pic in the OP.
I enjoyed this episode. The show is as good as dead, so I'll just enjoy the good stuff and won't worry about the rest.

This was better than last weeks show and now I feel like I don't want this show to be canceled and it might not have a chance to redeem itself.

I really like this series and IMO hasn't been a weak episode yet. It has a Wild Wild West feel to it. Especially the camera shots and the carny atmosphere.
Are we watching the same show ... or are you watching the Sewing Network about making capes?
