This is an interesting list.

You will have to do some clicking, but if you are so inclined it's well worth it.

It has certainly whet my appetite to catch up with some of these I haven't seen.

Also, it's nice to see Nicholas Roeg so well represented.

#86 The Bridge on the River Kwai - hated it for reasons I cannot remember at the moment.
#81 Dr. No - my favorite of the Bond movies.
#24 Brazil - absolutely hate that movie.
#23 Lawrence of Arabia - one of my top 10 all-time favorite movies (no matter what else you may have previously read).
#2 The Third Man - absolutely brilliant (purchased it on blu-ray before it went oop).

Interesting. The Brits may beat us in Rock n Roll but we own them in movies.

Wow, Trainspotting all the way up at #10.

It seems like the Kubrick films should be higher. 2001 only at #57?

I've only discovered the Powell/Pressburger films within the past few years and have been amazed by them.

Just watched Kes for the first time last week and was moved by it....Despite having difficulty on what was often being said.

I've probably seen more like 25 of them. It is nice to see Michael Winterbottom get so much love and I would agree with their placing Wonderland the highest of the 3 of his films that made the list.

In my list the top ten would include David Lean's GREAT EXPECTATIONS (1946), DEAD OF NIGHT (1945), Joseph Losey's THESE ARE THE DAMNED (1961), MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL (1975) and the first five James Bond films. Maybe not in that order.

Oh, and FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH (1967, aka QUATERMASS AND THE PIT) as well. That makes ten.

I'm just glad to see it didn't top Mr. Bean for it's spot in the Top Ten.

I've seen 15 of them (including #1) and Brazil is my personal favorite from the list. I love seeing Walkabout, Repulsion and early Hitchcock represented. I've also discovered the films of Michael Powell in the last few years and am glad that Peeping Tom got recognized. Brilliant film - it's a shame about all the bad press it generated hurting his career back in the day. Seems so stupid now.

There are about five more of these titles in my collection that I need to get around to watching.

Obviously I have a few issues with the numerical "placement" of the flicks, as to be expected from a poll-based list, but it's a pretty great essential-viewing rundown that put a good number on my radar to check out. Nice to see Carol Reed's non-Third Man stuff represented, along with (as already mentioned) plenty of Roeg love. And, of course, the Powell-Pressburger inclusions are all terrific.

I certainly don't agree with the notion, though, that Topsy-Turvy and Four Weddings and a Funeral are seen in higher regard than Bridge On the River Kwai, Zulu, and recently Fish Tank.

I agree about "Four Weddings and a Funeral," but I'd rank "Topsy-Turvy," one of the best films of the 90s, above "Zulu" and "Fish Tank." Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm a big fan of Gilbert and Sullivan as well as Mike Leigh.

Anyways, I've seen about three-quarters of the film on the list and don't have any major complaints. There are, of course, a handful of films I dislike or that I think should be ranked very differently. But I am glad to see great filmmakers like Mike Leigh and Powell/Pressburger so well represented, as well as some of the great Ealing comedies ("The Ladykillers," "Kind Hearts and Coronets.")

Wow - a lot of films I've never even heard of. Time to start a watch list from this list.

I haven't seen Blow-Up, but I'm getting the Criterion BD, of course. I've been meaning to import the BFI BD of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning...those two will put me up to 31 total.

That's Blow Out (DePalma's tribute film ) getting the Criterion treatment.

I haven't seen Blow-Up (or any Antonioni film for that matter), but plan to remedy that in the near future.

Happy to see that Shane Meadows made the list with multiple films.

I dunno, I like how expressive/eccentric brit movies can be, while american movies overall are probably greater, they are a bit 'safer' / straight forward. You wouldnt see an american list like this have weird flicks like "Performance" on it for instance,

I'm surprised to have seen 47 of these movies - thanks a lot to the generous inclusion of many horror movies. I don't think I can take the numeric rankings seriously. But as a smorgasbord of fine British cinema it's a good list.

American movies seem "safer" if you consider the volume of the mainstream studio stuff. But depending on who made a list, you could easily fill it with lots of "weird" stuff - guys like Lynch, Aronofsky, Fincher, etc.

I've only seen 9.
