The posse chasing a trapper in Alaska sounds like Death Hunt in that Charles Bronson was a trapper in the Canadian Territory heading for Alaska but the end with the snow doesn't. He does hide and come out to see Lee Marvin though.

I'm fairly certain the movie you're thinking of is Challenge to Be Free with Mike Mazurki.

Lee Marvin and Mike Mazurki appeared together in DONOVAN'S REEF (1963) which, not coincidentally, takes place in Hawaii.

I respectfully think that you are wrong. You were thinking of Death Hunt with Charles Bronson.

Wow, I saw this movie in the theater when I was a kid. I haven't thought about it in 30 years.

Isn't there a scene where the protagonist uses an axe blade to shave part of the beard of one of his pursuers, just to torment him?

As for the ending
Spoiler:
I think he dies under the avalanche. The part with him laughing at the end was a flashback to earlier in the movie. Then again, it's been 30+ years since I saw it.
