Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the Push Mix" -- 1/31/11

I saw two things about this episode:

1) It was originally the last of the 13 episode order, therefore it ties up some story lines. I guess that means they didn't try and change course last minute to account for the order of a back half (again...)

2) According to Schwartz and Fedak is has, "best 10 minutes in the show's history". I'd have to sit down and have a serious think about what has been the best segment for me out of the entire show for those 10 minutes to beat. If I had to guess on the spot it would be the end of v The Ring from season 2.

Oh, and I really really hope this isn't the last we see of Dalton.

Great episode, good twist. With everything wrapped up what are they going to do with the rest of the season?

The ending shot was a nice touch. Didn't care for Jeffster at the end, but liked everything else.

Loved it--best episode of the season so far. Definitely looked like they were prepared for this to to be a series finale if need be. Everything at the hospital in the last 15 minutes was great--even Jeffster getting escorted out by the po-po.

Loved it. I have to say, though (and sorry if this is blasphemy), I almost wish this was the series finale. I just can't see where they could go from here. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I hope the show doesn't drag out for too long and lose its magic. Last year there was a "real" ending episode followed by a few that were tacked-on, and they all fell flat for me. I'd hate to see that happen again this season.

Also, I normally don't mind Jeffster, but their subplot was really, really unnecessary this week. I would've been just as happy if they'd just been absent from the episode.

Morgan realizing Chuck had something on under the wet suit was pretty funny.

Will be interesting to see where they go from here.

I'm hoping for a return to the season 1 type storylines, where it's more villian of the week combined with some character mythology.

BTW, this will be the first season of Chuck that began airing in September and ended in May - assuming NBC doesn't chicken out like they did in Season 2. The ratings this year have been steady (around 5-6 million total viewers), and a 22-episode season 5 would take Chuck to the 100 episode mark. Not bad for a series that's had 4 series finale type episodes (Chuck Versus the Ring in S2; Chuck Versus the Other Guy and Chuck Versus the Ring: Part II in S3; tonight's episode).

Some info about the next two episodes:
Spoiler:

"Chuck Versus the Seduction Impossible"
In need of an exciting new mission, Chuck (Zachary Levi), Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) are sent to Morocco to rescue Roan Montgomery (guest star John Larroquette). Meanwhile, Chuck and Sarah are at odds over their future plans. Back at home, Morgan (Joshua Gomez) prepares to meet Alex's (guest star Mekenna Melvin) mom, as Mary (guest star Linda Hamilton) bonds with her family. Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin and Bonita Friedericy also star.

"Chuck Versus the C.A.T. Squad"
As a surprise, Chuck Bartowski reunites Sarah Walker with her old spy team The C.A.T. Squad, including Carina Miller (Mini Anden). The squad flies to Rio De Janeiro to face off against their nemesis Augusto Gaez (Lou Diamond Phillips), however old grudges start to get in the way of the mission. Elsewhere, Morgan Grimes' relationship with Alex McHugh (Mekenna Melvin) is threatened by Carina's return.

I'm kinda the opposite. My two favorite episodes from last season were the first two after all the Shaw drama ended (before he came back) and everybody was just doing their thing. I guess it's just that I see this show more as a comedy and the gravely serious storylines generally leave me less satisfied than the silly romps.

Spoiler:
I am so glad Carina is returning. She's my favorite recurring character, after Bryce Larkin, and you know she's gonna cause havoc.

I think Jeffster is suffering from over-use. I liked where the proposal ended up, however.

Agreed. It was fine as an every-once-in-awhile sort of gag in places where it was appropriate, but last night it just felt uninspired and, worse, it took away from the moment a little.

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the Push Mix" -- 1/31/11

I've been sick of Lester (whether in Jeffster or on his own) for some time now. (Wishing he'd get Tony Hale'd soon.)

This would have been a great series finale. (Glad it's not, but it'll be tough to top this one.) It's too bad that in today's TV world, there's been so much uncertainty about its future and they couldn't have written for the story, not for the potential ending.

How close is it (will it be), after season 4 is over, to syndication? I would think that would be a motivating factor for bringing it back for season 5, if they didn't want to on the show's merits alone.

Really happy with last night's episode though and wonder how the extra order will pan out. Will they leave a cliffhanger for season 5 or have to write another "series finale"?

Great episode... Even in a season that isnt as great as past (and I have liked this season for the most part) the writers still have excellent episodes in them. Will be interested to see where they take the rest of the season, but I am selfish and would love to see them get that 5th season.

I think 100 is the magic number for syndication.

Seeing him in his underwear was even better.

Loved the episode except for Jeffster. Didn't think it added anything to an otherwise great episode. Hope we see Linda Hamilton again

I liked the idea of Jeffster, but the actual performance was underwhelming and not particularly funny. The leadup to that moment was good, though.

I used to love Jeffster, but since the sight (thought of) Lester annoys me, poor Jeff, when he's with him, suffers. I wish I could figure it out, but I know I've felt this way pretty much all season, and probably from season 3.

Curious as to whether they'll leave Volkoff in prison for the rest of this season or spring the "break" episode before 24 because of lack of assurance as to season 5.

Best episode of the season. Chuck was in form!!! I liked the music too.
Jeffster is indeed suffering from overuse; but I dont find them annoying. They do have some great moments.
Lester: ...Coldplay!
Jeff: Slowly shakes his head.

Wish the writers would give Captain Awesome his balls back.

BTW: I liked the epiosodes last season after Shaw died. Not as great as before, but still very good.

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the Push Mix" -- 1/31/11

Great episode, great music... Jeffster was so cringe-worthy though I almost couldn't watch. Dancing with pregnant women and signing a "Salt & Peppa" song??

It looks like the show is going to go down the road of random 1-off 'spy' missions. I have a feeling the true Finale will feature Volkoff again --- and possibly Chuck and Sarah actually marrying or retiring from the agency and having a baby.

edit: I love the way the had Chuck propose. Simple, touching, great music and effective. THAT is what makes me like this show.

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the Push Mix" -- 1/31/11

I wasn't feeling this episode too much. I know they were originally facing a 13 episode season, but these past 3 episodes have felt so rush, especially when you look that almost nothing was going on in the front half of the season.

I certainly liked parts, but overall it felt flat and I most definitely didn't feel like any part of it was the craziest 10 minutes in the shows history. I think it would have made more sense if they mirrored v the Ring and had Ellie giving birth, Chuck executing his plan with Jeffster backing. I guess I just need to accept that this show peaked with season 2.

I liked Jeff and Lester making fun of Chuck's/the shows music choice. I also liked the callback to Orion and Chuck's proposal. I'm also very glad to see we have the possibility of having Volkov back. I think when all is said and done with the show he will have been one of the best aspects.

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the Push Mix" -- 1/31/11

Liked the episode except for the Jeffster payoff. I usually enjoy them and liked their contribution to the ep all the way up until they actually walked into the hospital. Then it sucked.

The conclusion to the Mary/Volkov storyline was good. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the back 10 (?) episodes. Would be nice to get back to a little of the goofy mission week-to-week type episodes.
