Comcast screwed my tivo over so have a question
Comcast went completely digital so the old series 2 tivo dual tuners i have no longer can record 2 shows at once. The machine is pretty much a vcr right now since it records whatever channel is currently on. I have 6 months on the yearly plan on one and 9 months left on the other so I will use them the best that I can until those expire.
Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere of shows that arent available online from either hulu or their networks? Also are there some networks that have a delay on posting new episodes? I am trying to figure out how I am gonna watch all the shows i normally watch. Any help will be appreciated.

Are you on some kind of contract lease? Can't you call them and ask them for new equipment since your Tivo's are essentially useless?
Just to give you an idea:
Cable:
TNT: All the shows have a 7 day delay on TNT.TV
USA: Usually posted the next day, but some may be delayed 1 week
FX: Anywhere from 8 days to 1 month delay
SyFy: 1 month delay
The network sites/Hulu usually post their shows the day after they air. Some take a few days longer like the CW.
Not available online:
CBS: Criminal Minds, The Mentalist
ABC: V

tivo sells the recorder. a new one is too expensive for me to purchase right now.
thanks for the info. i watch all 3 of the not available online shows so will have to make sure to catch them live or make sure they are on the record list.

Tivo actually has a new deal through the end of this month, $99 for the box + 1 yr. at $20 a month.
$20 is pretty high, but doable for a year if you don't have the scratch for lifetime right now.

Through the 29th, you can get a TiVo Premiere for nothing as long as you pay $20 a month for 2 years. I'm going to do that my current Tivo is a single tuner series 2 that I'm paying $13 a month on.

My cable company did the same. Just be aware you're going to have not just the $20 fee but whatever your cable company charges for a M cablecard (supports multiple tuners, I think). My prior $13 for TiVo is now $26. It's still worth it since my cable company uses a terrible Motorola DVR with wretched OS on it for a whopping $18 and I own nothing.
ETA: I also do now get to see the digital channels I wrote off with the Series 2 DVR.

Did you check into whether the Comcast TiVo is available in your area and how much it costs?

Re: Comcast screwed my tivo over so have a question
I'm not so upset about $6, particularly when I think of their crappy $18 DVR.
To clarify, I'm on the $20 plan with TiVo and $6 for the card.

thanks for all the other deal info. will have to see if i can afford to upgrade to premiere. Comcast wants to charge me $16 for a dvr but I would still have to pay for my current tivo plan if i went with them. If tivo were to switch me mid plan to premiere it may be worth it going that route but not if i still have to pay for my current plan.

Re: Comcast screwed my tivo over so have a question
I'm not sure if this will help, but the RF cable from Tivo can be connected to allow it to change channels. This is what I use with the Comcast digital adapter.

He won't be able to use both tuners, of course, but this is an option over the current "whatever channel it's on".

Re: Comcast screwed my tivo over so have a question
I really feel old, I have a few Panasonic Showstoppers (ReplayTV) with lifetime updates, but since Comcast went to digital for channels over 27 (I think), I'm stuck with boxes that can only record the analog SD feed for channels 2-27. One of the Showstoppers had a hard drive go bad, so I de-commissioned it, now just have 2 other ones that I use for very low priority recordings, and rely on the rented Comcast HD DVR for the interim. Upgrading to a current HD Tivo solution just seems cost prohibitive for me these days, never thought I'd type that sentence.

Re: Comcast screwed my tivo over so have a question
I'd like to have a Tivo but the monthly fee of Tivo + card 1 + card 2 is more than the cable dvr fee itself. Plus, I like being able to just go get another one, or upgrade if the current DVR fails.

True, when the hard drive of my Comcast HD DVR started to act up, I just drove down to the Comcast center and swap it out with another one (though I had to re-set up my recordings, and lost what I had on the hard drive, but it was no biggie).

I think that's a new plan with a cheap or free box.
I just canceled my TiVo service because I had DirecTV installed Saturday, and boy, what a crappy experience that was. I felt like I was breaking up with someone who just didn't get it. I had to resort to repeating "just cancel it please" over and over again until the CSR finally did so.

i have a time warner DVR at $13 a month. way cheaper than a tivo. probably doesn't do as much but i don't care since all i do is record a few shows for my wife and cartoons.

Re: Comcast screwed my tivo over so have a question
my current tivo service is about $10 a month. paying for another 6 months and 9 months for the second before i can cancel plus paying for 2 comcast dvr at $16 each is more than i can afford atm. I looked at the offer of upgrading to premiere but it would be $20 each for a 2 year commitment or they wanted to charge me $13 a month each if i bought the new machine at $199 for a 1 year commitment.
If i can somehow swing it to where i can catch most of the shows i want online I may just drop both options and go that route.

Start by calling Comcast to get a free digital tuning adapter. When your commitment is up, consider going online only or upgrading to a HD Tivo.
