Can someone explain WTF happened to me in COD MW2 on PS3?

I was playing online, and I'm not much of a gamer at all but enjoy this game. Like doing the free for all's online and such.

Last night I tried a different team style game and I got leveled up to 70 and everything is unlocked, I'm pretty pissed and like earning my way up. How can i revert and WTF happened? Also seems my coloring is off now, maybe brighter or something but doesn't look the same.

Really annoying and frustrating. One time I got in a room and the colors were effed and a giant pot leaf was on the screen. Very odd. Seems like hacking or something but I had no idea that was possible.

You unintentionally joined a hacked lobby. MW2 on PS3 has had a huge problem with them ever since the PS3 encryption keys were found and distributed. All you can do is prestige and start at level one again.

In the future, if you notice something that isn't right (the pot leaf, for example), quit the match ASAP. Also, playing free-for-all greatly increases your chance of joining hacked lobbies.

I think it's the PS3 controller's fault.

From what I've read a lot of people have quit playing other than games with their friends. It's pretty bad.

Black Ops does not have the same issue.

Here's a statement from Infinity Ward:

Sony has recently acknowledged a breach in security on the PS3 which has resulted in the hardware and its games to become exposed to exploits and hacks. Modern Warfare 2 is no exception to this security exploit and we understand that some of you have experienced problems with stats and other issues associated with this.

Report Inappropriate Players to Sony

Games rely on the security of the encryption on the platforms they're played on, therefore; updates to the game through patches will not resolve this problem completely, unless the security exploit itself is resolved on the platform. However, that doesn't mean we're not going to look into every option available to us. Regretfully, Call of Duty games are receiving the bulk of the hacker's attention, due to its high player counts and popularity. However, the number of legitimate players severely outweighs the bad apples.

If you are concerned about playing with players who are hacking, I encourage you to play exclusively with friends by utilizing the party or private match options in Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4 to avoid such players as much as possible until this issue is resolved by Sony.

At this time, we do not have the ability to restore or adjust individual stats.

Let me assure you, while we are very reliant on Sony updating their firmware and security to address the core problem of this issue. We are looking at EVERY option available to us to help any user affected.

This only applies to legacy games such as Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. In the future we plan to adjust our approach to not rely solely on platform security and reduce the ability for this to happen in our games, as has already been displayed by the work Treyarch has done on Call of Duty: Black Ops to prevent similar measures.

They wouldn't have to rely on platform security if all online stats and leveling were stored online.

Prestige Mode resets you to level one and resets all of your challenges, perks, etc. Doing this the first time also opens up a bunch of new challenges and gives you one more custom class slot.

Why is Infinity Ward commenting on Black Ops which was developed by Treyarch?

I quite playing MW2 online with the exception of friends and my brother in Special Ops mode just because the people annoyed me but with massive cheating that's another reason to stay away.
