Quote:
"Now, lots of games say crap like "easy to pick up but deep," but I'm happy to tell you that it looks like THQ isn't BSing us this time When I was just getting a feel for the controls, I was still pulling off fantastical stuff -- I made Rey Mysterio run up Andre the Giant's chest, leap to the top rope, and then fire off an attack. That's amazingly awesome to watch and satisfying to do. When I had built up a finisher, it was a simple pair of button presses to pull off and see Bret the Hitman Hart grab his opponent and throw him into the Sharpshooter for the KO.

As I got the hang of that stuff, the strategy and depth of the game began to shine through. When someone's grabbing for you, you can reverse it with a button press and perform the grab on them. They can reverse it as well to get a chain going. When you knock guys down, they're going to get up pretty quickly to keep WWE All Stars frantic pace, but every other time you drop an opponent, they'll glow red letting you know that you can perform a move without the fear of them popping right back up.

Layered on that base stuff are character classes. Big Men are slow but are hard to knock down, while Acrobats can connect from the top rope pretty much anywhere in the ring and run without draining their extreme signature move bar as quickly. Each class has its own pros and cons."

I don't mind the ultra arcadey nature so it might be fun, but more importantly it is nice to see macho man affiliating himself with WWE once again. I smell HOF introduction!

Macho Man looks like an old man i would love to hang out with. As for the game, i haven't played a wrestling game steadily since the n64 THQ games as the controls on every other release have been shit. If they are simplifying the controls i hope they go the route those games have. Also hope the lineup is very robust and should definitely have Mankind and Stone Cold.

Mick Foley being with TNA will probably (unfortunately) preclude that...same reason why there probably won't be any Hogan in the game....

Some of the best games ever (to me) were the old arcade Wrestlefest and WWF Arcade. If this is anything like those, I'm in!

edit: holy cow does Macho Man look super old. He didn't look anything like that in Spiderman.

I'm in the same boat. I would love nothing more than to get into a wrestling game again, but the controls for everything that isn't those N64 games has felt awful to me. I know there are fan mods, but I would seriously pay top dollar for an updated AKI style wrestling game. Just the thought of it makes me giddy.

However, this looks really arcadey, which I think is a good sign. I've completely given up on Smackdown v Raw games, so other options at least give me a chance for some fun. The "juggling" is a little worrying though.

The casual WWE games are looking more and more like the Legends of Wrestling series, which everyone but me hated.

That was what, 8-9 years ago?

People get old.

Re: WWE All Stars. (3/29/11)

Looks sorta like that Legends of Wrestlemania game they did a couple years back to me. Wasn't really a big fan of that but it had a pretty good roster. Too bad a lot of those stars are no longer with the company or on good terms so they can't be included now that they've got Macho Man in. Would be nice to play a Hogan/Macho Man match but oh well. I might just give this a rental at some point or wait til it hits bargain bin prices.

This game looks up my alley, as I couldn't get into the more simulation type of games. I loved the arcade versions way back when though.

Have to wait for TNA All-Stars to come out for those guys.

Hopefully there are more actual "all stars" rather then guys like Sheamus or Morrison.

Re: WWE All Stars. (3/29/11)

PWIinsider reports:
Hulk Hogan is in the game since because his deal with TNA allows him to take outside licensing deals. This is a new game deal instead of an older one that was in place before he went to TNA.

Haven't played a good wrestling game since Here Comes The Pain on PS2. Loved the controls/gameplay on that one.

I'll definitely check this one out of the roster is big. Hoping for The Great Muta

Preliminary Box Art did show Hogan (as well as Ultimate Warrior) but supposedly he was taken out once WWE got a hold of it. Which is kinda sad, he'll probably in the programming but we won't be able to mess with him. I miss things like Game Genie and PAR.

Edit: Looks like Hogan is in due to a licensing arrangement, but Flair certainly not in there. Too bad there probably isn't a CAW editor in there, even a simple one.

Re: WWE All Stars. (3/29/11)

Wonder if the British Bulldogs made the cut? I got out of wrestling during that period, so the older the legends, the better.

PS - glad to see The Ultimate Warrior is in there!

Re: WWE All Stars. (3/29/11)

So this is a different game engine than Legends? I loved the idea behind that game but the demo didn't win me over... the Quick Time Event gameplay just destroyed any fun I should have had playing with that awesome roster.

Austin has to be in there. He still has strong ties with the WWE, so I don't see any issue there. He probably just didn't make the box cover. And for those questioning Kofi, I'm with ya, but it's probably a demographics thing to be honest. A way to draw in certain fans, that's all.

I LOVE the Wrestlefest look. Hate the NBA Jam like moves.
