Horrible pilot. Reviews say it gets better. Saw the second episode as well - still not good. Hopefully by the third episode...?

^ Reviews I've read indicate it picks up by the 3rd or 4th episode...but it's only a 7 episode season. Not sure it's worth the wait...

The reviews I've been reading seem to suggest that this would be better watched over a short period of time when it's out on DVD (or a marathon, On Demand, etc) rather than one episode a week; it supposedly starts poorly but builds up over time. I'll still probably check it out though.

/\ If that is the case, I may just burn through all seven On Demand after the season finale.

Ouch. Also hated that they pimped Matt Leblanc as one of the leads, and he's barely in the pilot

Yeah, not good

I think the people laughing through the audition may have been more annoying than a typical laugh track. I can see the blond chick that only says one or two words at a time becoming annoying quickly.

re: Episodes -- New Showtime series with Matt LeBlanc -- Season 1 Thread -- 1/09/11

I like the premise of the show and think it's a very fresh idea. But, I think the execution in Pilot kind of sucked. I didn't laugh once. The audition scene with the big fat British actor was really unfunny and uncomfortable to watch. What was even more annoying was that blonde chick who kept making faces and saying 1-2 words.

I realize this is a comedy, but of all the British comedy actors out there, IMO they cast two very unattractive and uncharismatic actors as the leads.

I'll watch the remaining 6 episodes and see how the premise of the show moves forward now that it appears LeBlanc will be more involved.

Yeah, the pilot was nothing special (helped that I curbed my expectations). Will tune in again next week since LeBlanc was largely absent from the pilot.

I think I'll wait until I've taped the next two and see if it plays better as an hour.

Mixed emotions on LeBlanc, I like the idea of him parodying himself.

Episodes -- "Episode 2" -- 1/16/11

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Sean and Beverly are guests at an elegant dinner party at Merc's house, where Sean is flattered by a silver-tongued Matt. Meanwhile, Matt flirts with Beverly, who realizes that being on the star's good side is far better than being his enemy.

Episode 2 of 7

I was kind of lukewarm to the 1st episode last week. But, since the season is so short and it's only a 30 minute show, I'll ride it out until the end.

There was an interesting article about Daisy Haggard, the blonde who kept making weird faces, in the new Entertainment Weekly. I guess it was part of his character.

Re: Episodes -- "Episode 2" -- 1/16/11

Episode 2 was okay. Obviously this show is designed to be a satire/parody of the behind the scenes aspects of the TV industry. Matt LeBlanc was in most of the episode and he was alright. I thought his initial meeting with Sean and Beverly was really awkward. Overall, the humor is really dry and there isn't really any laugh out loud moments. The funniest part was one Beverly went ape shit crazy at the security guard and cursed a shit storm. I can see how this show may not appeal appeal to alot of people due to the lack of laughs and unappealing lead actors (Sean and Beverly)

Yeah, nothing too exciting in last night's episode. It's still mildly engaging such that I'll continue to tune in. Plus, I hear it gets better around the 4th episode...so I'll stick with it.

A ton better than the pilot, but still just OK for me. I think it's clever and funny, but not in a "laugh out loud" sort of way. I'll definitely stick with it though since it's such a short run.

Agreed. But then I've seen them in so many things. They're the only reason I was even aware of this show.

Re: Episodes -- "Episode 2" -- 1/16/11

I thought this episode was hilarious - sure it's an awkward/dry kind of humour but I'm loving it. Merk talking about the time they took a 'bad vacation' where his wife went blind & then openly making fun of her boring stories were definitely a highlight IMO.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Beverly feels left out of the budding "bromance" between Sean and Matt, especially after the guys bond over a day trip to Las Vegas.

Episode 3 of 7

I thought it was funny in last week's episode when Matt showed a picture of his kids to Beverly and it was 2 sons when he actually only has 1 daughter in real life. I guess the Matt LeBlanc character on this show is just really part of this show being a Satire.

Re: Episodes -- "Episode 3" -- 1/23/11

Wow! This episode sucked. No laughs at all. It has potential for some humor when Matt and Sean went to Las Vegas, but they didn't anything with it. Beverly is such an annoying hag. I do give the writers some credit for willing to poke fun at the whole Hollywood scene with everyone at the network being so fake, especially during that table read.

For the record, Pucks! sounds like an awful TV show.

Re: Episodes -- "Episode 3" -- 1/23/11

Actually I think this show is best when it's not trying to be funny. I found the Matt and Sean scenes to be the best because it didn't have all the awful British-style fish-out-of-water slapstick that the ruins the rest of the show.

The sad fact is, the two leads, while good actors, are very unfunny. So, they really ought to just let this show be more serious with occasional comic flair rather than the "romp" it wants to be. To me the only truly funny thing about this show is that blond chick with the crazy facial expressions in the background. For some reason I can't get enough of her.

Re: Episodes -- "Episode 3" -- 1/23/11

It seems like they are trying to strike a tone somewhere between Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development, but they are missing the over-the-top rawness of the former and the dry lunacy of the latter. They keep trying to be audacious with stuff like the kid smoking or Matt's 'third arm' but that stuff just feels old hat and they really never take it anywhere... it's too outrageous to be taken seriously but it's not outrageous enough to be funny. Especially coming on the heels of something like Eastbound & Down, or even basic cable shows like Always Sunny or Archer.

I still feel like there's something here, as I like the subtle bits, especially the interactions with the female exec (and her minions) and the writers. The show gets more laughs from me with some of the actor's facial expressions and reactions than anything.
