Detroit 187 -- "Ice Man/Malibu" -- 1/04/11
By djariya at 2011-01-01
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Episode 11 of 18
I've been following Erin Cummings, who plays Abbey (the red head on the left), Twitter feed and if you read her stuff, she comes across as a little nuts. Apparently she just flew back to Detroit to film the rest of the season.

Someone said the same about Jenny Wade. I think they are both just having fun with something that's completely redundant since it's kinda become something you have to do as a celebrity.

I haven't really commented on the Detroit 187 threads, but I went ahead and watched this tonight.
I have to be perfectly honest, after watching Southland tonight on TNT, this show is 5 steps down compared to it in quality. It just doesn't have the toughness or grittiness that Southland has.
Between the A and B stories tonight, I enjoyed the "Ice Man" storyline alot more than "Malibu" At least the "Ice Man" storyline had somewhat of a surprising ending with the brother in law being the killer.
The B story "Malibu" was kind of weak. I mean really? The dorky Production Assistant did it? At least the segment was topical in that Detroit does need the income from TV/Movie productions.
Even though Imperioli is the lead, I'm not a fan of Fitch and Washington's storylines. I actually think Sanchez and Stone are the more compelling partners, especially Natalie Martinez since she's smoking hot and very easy on the eyes.

I want to like this show -- being from near Detroit and all -- but it just doesn't do it for me from a story standpoint. I like Imperioli but the rest of the crew is boring. It also takes me out of the element when I hear them mis-pronounce local streets or areas around Detroit.

I watched these back-to-back and thought the same thing. I've been watching this show off and on, and I think I'm done.

Haven't watched this ep yet, though it was DVR'd last night.
Honestly? I'm stuck with it until it's canceled, it seems. My GF likes the show; she was a Law & Order fan, too. I'm not into procedurals unless they bring something new & innovative to the genre, but she likes 'em.
You folks are aware, I'm sure, that I am a "kept man". I've used all my skills (plus my massive movie collection) to sway my GF from these boring, repetitive, cliched-beyond-all-common-sense shows, but she's taken a shine to this one.
My only hope is that it gets canceled soon; that's my only way out, other than spending time somewhere else in the house when it's on (I do that occasionally, but I prefer to spend my time with her, and she with me, nearly all the time).

I agree with Gunde.
I think the Wire is the best show ever made, so I understand how cliched and cookie cutter this show is. I hate every other procedural cop show that I've ever seen...but something about this show has me hooked. For someone like me who sometimes collects 20+ episodes of other shows on the DVR because I just don't get the urge to watch this...this show is mandatory/instant viewing. I can't explain it, but it think it has something to do with the quirky moments in between the case work that keeps me smiling. The stuff at the end with Fitch getting the call from his daughter, that was good stuff. And Imperioli is head and shouders better in this than he was in the Sopranos.

I agree with Gunde and david12, love this show. Don't understand the hate for it. And I hate procedural. This is the only one I watch, or have ever watched, really. Maybe I'm getting old.

I really like this show but felt tonight's ep was fairly weak. Hoping for a better one next week.
