Bright Eyes - The Peoples Key (Feb 15th)

New Bright Eyes CD, which is rumored to be the last, out Feb 15th (Connor's bday).

I doubt there are many fans on the board, but I am, and they tracks that have been making the rounds are really really great. Can't wait to see them in Atlanta in March.

Bright Eyes’s Conor Oberst told the Omaha World-Herald back in 2009 that he’d do just one more album under the Bright Eyes name in 2010 before retiring it. The People’s Key sounds like that album, though it won’t be out until February 2011. Some other key details: The Bright Eyes line-up is still Conor Oberst, folk monster Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott. The record was recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha, and it will come out via Saddle Creek (Oberst released his recent solo albums with Merge). And they’ll support The People’s Key with two big shows next year at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall. What does The People’s Key sound like? Bright Eyes/Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel Tweeted this: “Just heard half of the new Bright Eyes record. Best sci-fi emo album of the last 20 years!!!” Here’s the full tracklist:

01 “Firewall”
02 “Shell Games”
03 “Jejune Stars”
04 “Approximate Sunlight”
05 “Haile Selassie”
06 “A Machine Spiritual (In The People’s Key)”
07 “Triple Spiral”
08 “Beginner’s Mind”
09 “Ladder Song”
10 “One For You, One For Me

Not a huge Bright Eyes fan but I've really enjoyed the last two Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band albums. Hope this follows suit.

I'm a Bright Eyes fan so I'm looking forward to this.

Also, a free track is available for download from saddle-creek.com.

Re: Bright Eyes - The Peoples Key (Feb 15th)

bumping my old thread. was away for awhile so I didn't get to follow up with my opinion.

Best Bright Eyes album since Lifted. One for You...., Haile Selassie, and Triple Spiral are my favorite tracks. Didn't go see them in Atlanta like I had planned, but the Nashville show was great. Got to meet him afterwards, and my gf got his autograph.

Much better than the new Death Cab record. This is tied with Battles for my favorite of the year so far.

I'm not sure why you took a jab at Death Cab For Cutie here. While the new Bright Eyes album may indeed be better, the new DCFC album is also one of their best in years (IMO).
