Do you still pre-order?

Do you still pre-order?
Was wondering if you guys still pre-ordered discs? They seem like they really have come down in cost with stores like Amazon dropping the prices practically the day after a title is released. I used to pre-order back in the days of DVD but now I can wait.

Re: Do you still pre-order?
will occasionally preorder from Amazon given if the price drops before it ships they will adjust the price ... b&m ads leak out early enough to cancel in the rare occasion they can beat the 'zon
most titles don't "need" to be had by me anymore on street but the scenario above applies if the price is fair and I want to have it right away

Re: Do you still pre-order?
I will only pre-order if it is Limited Edition. I have so many movies that I haven't watched yet (still have DVDs that I haven't watched yet) that I can wait until it gets cheaper.

I preorder for things I want too badly to wait (Night of the Creeps), really good prices I know aren't going to last (Grindhouse), and coupons (Disney).

After Amazon dropped the price of Vampire Circus by $1.49 the day after shipping out pre-orders, and then refused to credit me the difference? No way. I'm going to wait a few days at least, from now on. I understand they did the same thing with The Town.

They have done this with a number of titles. It's not worth pre-ordering from Amazon anymore.

I don't get the point of pre ordering unless it is bound to be rare, or its some part of promotion. No point in pre ordering a common title.

I never do unless it's something that's offered ridiculously low (Grindhouse) or is going to be limited (BTTF tin, Battle Royale LE). Otherwise, I don't see the point.

I very seldom pre-order; out of hundreds of DVDs, hundreds of CDs, and several dozen blu-rays, I've pre-ordered maybe half a dozen times. Usually it's been when the price was ludicrously low (KillerCannibal mentioned Grindhouse, that was one I pre-ordered, too).

I pre-order at Amazon if it pops up in my Gold Box or if it's the same price already as the B&M scans that come out early, since I know I won't be getting it any cheaper then what Amazon will offer.

Re: Do you still pre-order?
Sure do, if it's something I want day-and-date. I still find the earlier you place the pre-order, the more likely you are to get the best price. And if it goes down after the release date, I'm OK with that too, the occasional one or two bucks more is hardly going to kill me.

Re: Do you still pre-order?
Can't remember the last time I preordered. In the DVD days I did it religously. Now I purchase so little, the prices drop so quickly, and the availability of used so soon, why bother? If it's a day one must have, the B&M will usually have a decent enough price and if it really is a day one must have price isn't all that important.

Re: Do you still pre-order?
I don't pre-order a ton but I don't buy a ton of new releases either. The exception has been the insane deals the past few months that have made me buy things I was planning to rent (Kick Ass, The Expendables).
I did pre-order Desperado because I didn't think it was likely to go higher than 30%, though now that I think about it, it's a Sony title and this week I sure was glad I hadn't already bought Jason and the Argonauts and similar titles.
And I guess I did redeem the coupon to pre-order Tangled as well. Plenty of time to cancel, and I would like this day and date (though I could survive without it).

Unlike a decade ago where the pre-order price was most times significantly cheaper than the actual selling price when released, most BDs go on sale just a few weeks after their street date. What's the point unless it's limited?

Re: Do you still pre-order?
I went from over 24 pre-orders on my account last week on Amazon now I have 7 pre-orders. I got burnt on Vampire Circus and Hard Boiled price drops and decided to cancel all pre-orders except those that the price was too good to pass up (Uncle Buck, Bambi, Memento) or films I really want and don't mind losing a few bucks if they go lower release week (Enter the Void, The Dorm that Dripped Blood, Santa Sangre, and All Star Superman)
