Question about this japanese Halloween (remake) release...
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%8F%E3...3593731&sr=8-2
Is this release the theatrical version?
I also heard mention that there was a steelbook available... anyone know where I can find that?

it lists the runtime as 109 min, same as theatrical. The Director's Cut runs 121 mins. Who knows how accurate their info is, your guess is as good as mine.

Blu-Ray.com has info that indicates it is the Director's Cut.

According to that Amazon link the aspect ratio is wrong. Wasn't the movie 2.35:1? It lists it at 1.78:1

Hm. well then... does anyone know of a blu release that IS the theatrical cut? Preferably one that is Region A or region free.... as I don't have a region-free BD player yet.
I might have to look into that german steelbook... even if it is apparently region locked.
Also, did any other countries get a release of the theatrical cut of the sequel?

IMHO, the only version of that film worth seeking out is the workprint (yes, I have it). The other two versions (theatrical cut & "director's cut" which is NOT the same as the workprint) pale in comparison. Had the workprint been released as it stood, the film would probably not have ignited such a shitstorm of hate from fans of the John Carpenter original. But, the studio just haaaad to intervine.

To the OP, the German version is the only version I know that has the theatrical cut of the first movie, and the UK has the theatrical cut of Halloween 2 (which is the better cut of that movie imo).

Thank you, sir!
If only they would release an ultimate edition with theatrical, director's cut, and workprint.

Zombie claims he doesn't know what the workprint version is since "they tested many different cuts". I call b.s. since he's probably just bummed people (me included) consider it the best cut of that turd.

Re: Question about this japanese Halloween (remake) release...
there are some great scenes in the workprint that should have made the theatrical cut. One scene that jumps out to me in particular is the scene of Michael walking across the street to wreck havoc on Laurie's adopted parents, but there are so many changes altogether so it's really worth checking out. If a high quality release existed, i'd probably edited out a cut of my own using all three versions.
there is a very decent, complete movie in there somewhere. I say that even though I like all the different cuts. This is quite a guilty pleasure of mine.

Edit:
Ah, I was looking at two threads and meant this post for the other one.

^ Nice custom! Mine has a cover that works as part of the "Halloween" custom cover series with the numerical spines and thick black borders.
