Has anyone noticed the new cases that prevent floaters?
I did a search for this topic, but it doesn't seem to exist, surprisingly. Somebody will probably chime in with "Welcome to 2 years ago", but I didn't notice the development until a few weeks ago.
DVDs that arrive rattling loose and scratched in their cases have long been a source of fury for DVD collectors, but I have noticed that the problem has finally been solved. Newer releases now come in cases that have little tabs on either side, holding the DVD down and secure on the hub when the case is closed. I think the principle reason DVDs came loose before was, when shipped individually, all that was required was for someone along the shipping route to grasp the package too tightly in the middle, causing the hub mechanism to release the DVD.
All I can say is, halledamnlujah! It's about time! I had my own case design that I was contemplating patenting and presenting to the manufacturers, but I was put off by the expense and hassle of the patent process. Now that is no longer necessary. Even so, with older DVDs sitting on the shelf from the last 13 years, floaters will be a continuing problem.

Yes, although I've never seen a "hub" design like that. What I'm referring to are the two tiny tabs (seen in your picture), one on the inside of the spine directly in the center of the case, the other on the inside of the front cover at the center left. When the case is closed, they hold the DVD in place. Simple. Problem solved.
I don't know how long such cases have been in circulation, but I only took notice of them recently. It only took the morons more than a decade of unhappy customers to decide something better was needed.

Here's one source, but I'm sure there are cheaper ones: http://www.mediacases.ca/Merchant2/m...egory_Code=DVD

ROH Wrestling's dvds have always come in that type of case, going as far back as 2004-2005. I like them a lot.

It boggles my mind that such a simple fix for an aggravating problem hasn't become the industry standard. Inexplicable.

Good question. Oddly enough, they don't appear to be the industry standard yet, though many of the DVDs I have bought recently have come in these new cases (I only realized it after I wondered why I was getting so few floaters).
