Just an FYI, there is a 15 minute preview for the new show "Game of Thrones" at 8:45pm before the Finale. It will be posted online at the below link after it airs on HBO.

A note on the title:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normalcy
"A return to normalcy" (i.e. a return to the way of life before World War I) was United States presidential candidate Warren G. Harding’s campaign promise in the election of 1920. Although detractors believed that the word was a neologism as well as a malapropism coined by Harding (as opposed to the more accepted term normality), there was contemporary discussion and evidence found that normalcy had been listed in dictionaries as far back as 1857.

I thought the Van Alden scenes were great. Loved when he bitch slapped the agent and the change of expression on his face when Lucy walked in was fantastic.
Everything else just seemed to be resolved a little to easily, like they were trying to wrap everything as quickly as possible so they could set up next season.

One question I had, was that Nucky's booze that Luciano and Lansky were robbing at the end?

I wondered that too. Also what was up with the money that Michael Badalucco's character was placing on the desk for Nucky's bodyguard? Was that the money he stole back from Anabelle, and if so, why?

I thought that was the $1 million that Rothstein payed. He was on the phone with Rothstein and the bodyguard was counting it.

Yeah, that was the Rothstein money. That wasn't Badalucco and that was a lot more money than the three grand he took

Spectacular, as is the entire first season; probably my favorite episode of the year. My only criticism is the ret-conning of the Commodore's poisoning, as the previous episode all but spelled it out that Jimmy's mother was the perpetrator. It's possible she was in cahoots with the maid, but without any knowing glances between the two, it seems unlikely.
Is it wrong that I empathize with the murderous Jimmy instead of his wife? She's been wounded, yes, but this self-pitying narcissism is beyond old at this point. Chopping off her hair after Jimmy's heartfelt plea was the cruelest thing anyone on this show has ever done, bar none.
And Carmella Soprano lives on in the kindly widow Schroeder. God, this is such a great show.
Big Love better bring its A game; it's got some big shoes to fill.

Did the maid really poison him? I thought Nucky paid her off to take the blame and to protect Jimmys mom(forget her name)
I also thought that Lucky and Lansky werent stealing Nuckys liquor at the end but they just shot the delivery guy to shut him up or it was just a random robbery somewhere away from Atlantic City just to show a 'return to normalcy'

Good episode. But I guess I was expecting more from a season finale.

Can someone explain to me the significance between the firing and re-hiring of Eli as Sheriff?

There was a wave of voter unrest about the corruption in the sheriff's department in Atlantic City. Plus Eli pissed off Nucky when he chastised him for telling Marget about what happened to her husband. So Nucky removed Eli as Sheriff until after the election.

Something that was pointed out on another board I read, Rothstein can collect the life insurance money on the D'Alessio brothers now, I think he made three of them plus Mickey Doyle sign.
So he gets to stay out of jail and he comes out 500K ahead after he paid Nucky.

I don't understand Eli and Jimmy's anger towards Nucky. I guess part of Eli's issue is sibling rivalry but he seems like an ingrate. Nucky has essentially given him everything he has. Same with Jimmy. Whos ire should be at the father who took advantage of his mother and ignored him his whole life. Not the man who looked after him as best he could regardless of his reasons for doing it.
I also thought it was obvious that Jimmy's mom was poisoning the Commodore and the maid took the fall for her.
