Kurt's weekly drama is sinking this show for me. One, two episodes, fine, but his shit takes the fun out of every episode.

Re: Glee -- "Furt" -- 11/23/10

Shouldn't it have been "Kinn"? Would make more sense now that they are step-brothers.

What a dis-jointed episode. The stories were all over the place. The whole "Sue marrying herself" was ridiculous, and having Kurt put together the entire wedding was also unbelieveable. Sue expels the bully and then he comes back a day later? Sue should be fired for how that whole situation was handled (especially calling Kurt her pet nicknames). Sue and Carol Burnett's singing duet felt like a really cheap theatrical production. This is the first episode where I found myself doing something else and having the show play in the background.

And I bet we'll be seeing YouTube videos in a few months with people getting married and the wedding party doing the whole dancing and singing in the church aisle thing. Just like all the people that performed the Thriller dance routine at their wedding reception and videotaped it for the world to see.

Still love this show, but I was disappointed in this episode.......

I totally agree with you. His storyline about being bullying has been dragged out too much and I really don't care for Colfer as an actor.

I was annoyed with the Kurt storyline in this episode. I loved the scenes with Sue and Doris and Burt and Carole's wedding was fun even though the aisle dancing was a bit over the top.

I'm finally seeing what you guys are bitching about in terms of Kurt. They're really dragging the bully storyline out. But ok, I get it.

In other news...I loved the wedding and what Kurt's dad said.

Didn't this show used to be about high school kids singing? I want that show back.

Gotta admit...seeing Coach Beast come out and break up the locker room fight roaring at the guys to break it up in a manly voice made me chuckle

Re: Glee -- "Furt" -- 11/23/10

Well, I think the Kurt bullying story was all just an excuse/setup for his school transfer. But I agree it could have been handled better.

The Sue wedding angle was the show at its worst... utterly ridiculous without any humor payoff. I know they wanted to get Carol Burnett on there but this was the worst way to introduce her character.

I am surprised they crammed the whole Burt/Carole wedding storyline, from announcement to afterparty, all into one episode. Seems like something that should have been threaded in the background of a few episodes leading up to the actual wedding... but I suppose that would have interfered with all the 'stunt' type episodes like Gwyneth and Rocky Horror.

On a positive note, I enjoyed all the wedding numbers and I think Santana looked better than ever in that red dress with the flower in her hair.

Re: Glee -- "Furt" -- 11/23/10

The vows were just about the only good thing in this entire episode. The isle performance was almost there but like everyone else I just kept thinking of the youtube video that obviously inspired the idea. Oh, and Santana looked smoking...which reminds me, Note to self: if I'm ever a middle aged, overweight women getting married DO NOT have my sons' hot "teen" friends in sexy cocktail dresses as bridesmaids.

Sue's wedding plot was just nonsense. Burnett was wasted. The Nazi hunter gag could have been good, but despite numerous attempts (too many really) they never nailed a solid punchline with it.

Unlike the show, I'm not going to beat the Kurt storyline to death. I will say the bully's dad was entirely too accepting of his kid being expelled. Even though he obviously appealed to the board he barely reacted when given the news. and Burt should have been arrested for assaulting a minor on school property.

Did the bully shove Kurt into a locker again?

Was it just as gripping as the 5000 other times they've done it this season?

Re: Glee -- "Furt" -- 11/23/10

One of the weaknesses of the format of this show is the need to make episodes self-contained. Anyone could sit down for the first time at each episode and “get” what’s going on, but that sacrifices continuity and often logic. As the show has evolved, another peculiarity I’ve noticed is how people blame the characters in very personal ways not realizing, it seems, this is fiction and what happens on “Glee” is the fabrication of screenwriters. “I hate Kurt,” “Poor Finn gets blamed for everything,” “Burt should be arrested for assaulting a student,” etc. Making sense of any of the criticism and the wild construct of the show becomes the challenge.

For me “Furt” is one of the few times we get some kind of resolution of an issue started in season 1: Finn’s “icky” feeling that Kurt was going to be his brother/roommate (or even that their parents were dating or headed for the altar). This episode was the most clearly written/played where Finn had a problem with Kurt or rather guilt about his ambivalence over Kurt. Whether the circumstances warranted it or not, Finn clearly was uncomfortable with Kurt being gay. And the writers took this to a conclusion—believable or not—that had a payoff for the audience and the critics. In an earlier episode the waters were muddied by Kurt’s “setting up” the parents so he could be closer to Finn, so the audience was torn as to who caused the mess, what the motivations were and who was the blame. But here Finn clearly has an issue. Burt, being the model parent, demonstrates to Finn how he should behave, and Finn learns to deal with his feelings and apparently overcomes them in the final number.

Is the show about a bunch of high school kids singing in a glee club? Yes. But it’s also an effort to deepen the struggles of those characters and adults around them so we aren’t watching a week-to-week replay of “Election.” Is it how any of us want it to be? Some jaunty group of kids from an Andy Hardy film putting on a show. Clearly not. “Glee” from the beginning delved into issues atypical for the genre (Rachel’s self-centered drive to stardom for instance was always a trait reserved for a minor character in an Andy Hardy film). And I find it frustrating that people say they want it to be ordinary and criticize if for the very thing that sets it apart and makes it anticipated and watchable from week-to-week.

I thought they were going to resolve this last night and have the guy admit he kissed Kurt and then maybe do something with The Jock coming out. Now he is going to be coming back?
Loved Carol Burnett. Hope she comes back.
Burt should not have been arrested. He was protected his son in a school that has done almost nothing about Kurt being bullied.

What happened to the black dancer that was always one of the dancers on the show. Did he get fired?

Where did the song they performed at the wedding come from?

Re: Glee -- "Furt" -- 11/23/10

Finally got around to watching the show tonight in my thanksgiving stupor.

I really like the direction that this season is taking as opposed to previous seasons which seemed to be just about being silly. The Carol Burnett/Nazi Hunter plot was totally unnecessary but the Glee Wedding itself was good and tied the whole Kurt/Finn story up nicely. I even like their version of the Bruno Mars song better than the original.

The wedding scene was awesome even though you couldn't help but think of that YouTube video, especially since the Office did it a few short months ago. Burt's speech was fantastic, and even Finn stepping up at the reception was great. What didn't work was going from the announcement to wedding in the span of a single episode. Probably the one time that stretching out a plot actually makes sense.

I've never given much notice to Santana, but that red dress made me a believer. I also loved the slit up Quinn's cheer skirt when the group was trying to figure out what to do with Kurt's bully. Nice little Dianna leg shot.

As for the rest of the episode, the Sue story was unrivaled in it's stupidity. Total waste of Carol Burnett, and as mentioned there was no payoff. There wasn't a single laugh to be had in that atrocious plot thread at all.

Lastly for what started off as an ensemble show, Kurt is killing that dynamic. He's becoming the Tracy Jordan of the Girlie Show. I understand there are probably thousands of gay kids that look up to him, but he's a drag and a fucking buzzkill to the show. They need to sideline him for a half dozen episodes. The show used to be fun from beginning to end but all the gay prosthelytizing is getting tiresome.

I liked the Sue-Carol duet. Wedding was inane.

Santana cleans up nice.
