in terms of music used for Watchmen I thought the use of 'Halleujah' during the love song was tacky and outright bad. The song was better integrated for 'Shrek'

touche actually considering none of the musical moments were in the play version, 'Amadeus' ... the movie, was far more visceral and the 'Don Giovanni' scene packed a wallop: the wall falling down, the winged demons jumping and flying at the conclusion: 'wow'! The other scene where Amadeus finds his muse (The Queen of the Night) for 'The Magic Flute', I thought the editing that Forman chose of her complaining to Mozart that merges her into the opera is perfect.

speaking of Ralph Bakshi, there's a great jazzy rendition of 'Scarborough Fair' that is featured in his Heavy Traffic, that is a definate highlight of the movie.

and in turn the whole Tarna episode in Heavy Metal sequence could have just been Elmer Bernstein's wonderful score alone - minus the few moments of dialogue. The score is the highlight of that entire sequence

and in continuing the theme of animated movies, while Disney's Pocohontas was critically maligned (for the most part) I think that the score is the film's best asset, notably the end theme when Pocahontas is watching John Smith leave on the ship - the movie builds and builds to such a crescendo, it a emotional sad/happy finale that the music beautifully compliments.

Get Carter "Carter Takes A Train" - harpsichord, double bass, tablas; simple but awesome.

It's Always Fair Weather "I Shouldn't Have Come (The Blue Danube)" - a musical number for three conflicting inner monologues.

The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella "Tell Him Anything (But Not That I Love Him)" - one of those soaring fairy tale tearjerkers, but with a twist.

C) It's got to be the Trolley Song from Meet Me in St Louis. Just explosively up beat. Possibly the best pop performance of the 20th century. And I'm not at all a Garland freak.

I'll have to think about this some more -- I know there are definitely specific moments that make me want to straight-up applaud -- but my recent viewing of Back to the Future was yet another reminder of how much I love that score. If I had to single out at least a section of the movie, if not a moment, all of the music once Marty pulls up to the clock tower after the dance through to when he's back in 1985 is great.Love this. Faces - "Ooh La La" at the end of Rushmore comes to mind too.
