I think that costume is bad-ass, yeah I said it. Especially the shot of it in the dark.
Nicolas Cage is the puking part.

^LOL; just like Dynamo, a kick to the nads will disable Supes.
I do agree that shot where the wires are illuminated looks awesome, just how the concept art looked.

Steve Johnsons and his team did great work on the design, but it had no place being in a Superman movie. Apparently Warner and/or Burton didn't want any of this stuff being seen, until recently, when it wound up being the only thing they could complain about were the pics with the actual logo. I guess they figured it would be more embarrassing trying to poorly hide it was for Superman and gave up.

What I find hilarious is how all you are going on about how terrible it all looks EVEN AFTER 'Superman Returns' was the movie you got!
I didn't think Superman Returns was terrible but this MAY have been better. Sure the suit ,in an unfinished state, may be confusing but I would have preferred to take my chances with Burton's vision rather than get what eventually did come out.
I've been saying it for years, they NEED a Darker Superman film!

On the "evening with kevin smith" dvd, he said one of the notes from producer Jon Peters was that "he didn't wanna see him in that suit!", assuming that he thought the blue and red would look cheesy. The other big notes were "no flying" and "he must fight a giant spider in the 3rd act"

Wait a minute. How do we know that's a pic for Burton's version? There's no dark/disturbing twisted trees or Jeffrey Jones in the background.

I believe that was meant to be Supes wearing the Eradicator. It's been years since I read Kevin Smith's script for the movie but that looks sort of how I remember it being described. The only difference is that he was meant to wear a helmet or mask and at the end he was to wear a traditionally colored Superman costume but with a few cosmetic updates to make it more 90's.
So, in short, that wasn't technically the Superman costume.

I actually liked Superman Returns. I don't understand all the hate.
As for Tim Burton...I think he did a terrible job on Batman and I am sure he would have been even worse on Superman. His Batman was OK back in the day but I never cared for Jack Nicholson as the Joker (WAY overrated) and, no, Mr. Mom should never have been Bruce Wayne. And don't get me started on the Prince soundtrack. The movies were just...OK but I never understood the undying love some people profess for them. I am glad Tim Burton has never made a superhero movie since.

The costume is actually cool. Just not cool for Superman. However, if it was meant to be the Eradicator suit (as I suspect it was) then it could have worked.
The suit was sentient in the script and was a sort of life support system for Kal-El. In fact, the Eradicator becomes the suit when a powerless and recently ressurected Kal-El insisted on saving a family from a burning building. Eventually, over the course of the script, the Eradicator comes to understand Kal-El's love for mankind and willingness to sacrifice himself for others, even unto death. So the Eradicator sacrifices itself to restore Kal-El's powers and redesigns itself into an updated version of the traditional Superman costume.

Re: Burton......first, huge fan. But I would not have wanted him involved with "Superman" in any shape or form. I didn't mind his take on getting "Batman" back on our radar. My problem with those films (that he directed) was Michael Keaton. He's o.k. in movies like "Mr. Mom" and "Beetle Juice", but him as Batman and Bruce Wayne!? Uh, no. Never bought it. Ever. He was just too small and waspish to be a dark super hero. It was downright laughable.

Only thing more shocking than those photos are all the people jumping to defend Superman Returns.
I don't give a shit what the costume looks like, as long as it's a good movie.
