Solid ep. The ending montage had a big Sopranos vibe with the music.

No Chalky, but still a pretty good episode. Another Sopranos alum shows up (Carmela's father).

I wanted to like this show very badly, but it is boring me to tears. I love Buscemi, but the story just seems to drag on, and it's losing me quickly.

Interesting, I still continue to be captivated by it. I am actually surprised at how much I like Jimmy. His Chicago storyline doesn't have many ties to Atlantic City, but he carries it (kudos to Michael Pitt, I suppose).

Some tension brewing between Nucky and his brother Eli as well.

As soon as Jimmy left Pearl to clean up, I was waiting to hear the shot.

Bummer! I expect some seriously painful payback.

I liked that they brought up Rothstein fixing the world series.

You almost get a Sonny and Michael vibe with Al and Jimmy. Jimmy is more analytical in how he operates while Al is all about brute force. It will be interesting to see how what they do next week.

Yup, I was counting the seconds for it to happen as soon as we saw a close-up of the hot water coming out of the bathroom faucet. Great scene overall (incl. Jimmy's story).

Yeah, the characters feel thin to me, there's no one to really latch onto outside of Jimmy, and he isn't horribly interesting himself. The show is well executed in terms of production and acting, but I just find myself not caring about whats happening.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "Nights in Ballygran" -- 10/17/10

could someone please tell me where the hell is Dabney Coleman in this?

he is credited in every episode thus far and supposed to be playing 'Commodore Louis Kaestner' according to IMDb and for the life of me can't figure out if he has been in it and i haven't noticed or he is to come.

usually they don't credit cast when they are not in an ep. so i am totally baffled.

He's the old guy who advises Buscemi's character.

He was sitting next to Nucky (or maybe 2 seats down) at the St. Patrick's day dinner. He's been in a few episodes so far.

Same here. I feel like I'm supposed to love this show, and it's leaving me cold.

Most of the characters are bland, or the actors lack charisma. I'm going to keep watching in the hopes that the show gets more interesting, but I fear I'm going to end up even more disappointed.

This show reminds me of the Sopranos. I watched it because I love mobster movies. But every episode was 3 minutes of cool mobster stuff and 57 minutes of Tony Soprano moping around the house in his bathrobe.

Yeah - I liked that too.

at Nucky's father and the speech at the Irish dinner and the argument it prompted.

I'm liking this show but it's still not keeping me from tapping the FF button a few times during the slow bits, like the singing and montages.

The "making the scene" clips on hbo.com are really interesting. Give a lot of detail about certain scenes and perspective I sometimes don't think about. The one about Chalky's warehouse is especially interesting.

I am in no way a fan of dumbing down TV, but if watching those making-of scenes is the only way to make a show seem interesting, that's a fail.

This one is dragging ass so far for me. And I'll note I wasn't one of the guys always calling for action on the Sopranos. I'm happy with good drama....good drama. Hopefully something comes along to spark things.

These sum up my feelings thus far. I love watching the show, and I'm consistently drawn in by the lush production design and authentic feel given to each of the characters (they all look like they belong in that era), but it feels like nothing much has been happening. It looks like next week might buck that trend, but I guess we'll see.
