Avatar Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray 11/16/10
James Camerons SE DVD and BR hits shelves this november 16th as 3 disc sets with alternate cuts of the film, 45 min of deleted scenes and a feature length documentary. The BR also has some additional features,(of course!), but I'll be happy with SD 3 disc set myself- Can't wait!

As you say, to each their own. I just remember checking my watch multiple times during the short(?!) version, waiting for it to end. I'm just trying to imagine what it would be like even longer.

Ignoring the little bit of spam there, are they saying that the long version is only an additional 15 minutes compared to the theatrical? I guess that's not too terribly painful.

Does any store have any exclusives with this? Is there no special deluxe packaging with a statue, etc. being sold anywhere for this? Kind of disappointing. I was hoping to get some kind of collectible to display on the shelf after waiting for the extended cut.

Toys aside (), I'm waiting for this to make its rounds and drop a few $$$ in price. Been waiting for this edition though. -kd5-

Bought this at BestBuy on sale, can't wait to watch it, thought Thanksgiving Day might be a good time for it. Neither my wife nor I have seen it yet so we're both anticipating it being pretty good despite the nay-sayers here. The only thing I don't like about this set is the packaging, ie: the DVD holders, or lack thereof to be more precise. The disc(s) just lay on a cardboard surface as opposed to clipping into holders. I don't much care for that, it seems to me if there are any dust particles on the cardboard surface, when you re-place the disc into its "sleeve" any particles could be ground into the business side of the disc. Not only that, but bending the cardboard slightly just to get ahold of the disc properly, then attempting to lift the disc away from the cardboard complete with dust particles, then re-placing the disc when finished, can result in scuffs as well as bent cardboard holders. I may just be anal about this but it seems to me like they could have come up with a better idea.
Anyway, glad I got this, can't wait to watch it. -kd5-

/\ Not that I am aware of for BF, but who knows prior to Christmas
If you have an Ultimate Electronics nearby, they have been giving out BOGO movie coupons that good beginning next week, through December 24th. That is one way to drive the price down a bit.

If any of you have this and it's still sitting on your shelf, I highly encourage you to pop it open and watch the making of documentary. It runs a little over 90 minutes and IMO it's one of the best and most comprehensive documentaries on the making of a movie recently.
Haven't watched the extended cut yet, but will make time for it next week.

After having watched this movie, I can't imagine what all the naysayers have against it unless they're just not fans of SciFi/Fantasy/Action/Adventure, in which case they probably should have stayed well away from Avatar. Both my wife and I enjoyed the Extended Edition of Avatar tremendously, glad to have finally got the chance to buy it, watch it, and add it to my collection for future viewings.
I give it two thumbs WAY up. -kd5-

I tried so hard to not buy the stripped down version, but caved. I put the extended edition on my wish list hoping someone will buy it for me! If they don't, then I'll probably pick it up in the new year.
