Most expensive North American Blu release?
Aniplex announced yesterday they will be releasing R.O.D. (Read Or Die) - The Complete- Blu-Ray Box for an MSRP of $199.98 and I'm curious if this is the single most expensive Blu-Ray release to date? Can anyone name a more expensive North American release? (yes, I know Japanese anime sets can get up >$400, the same set in Japan costs ~ $450)

Lost: The Complete Series for MSRP: $279.99.
Battlestar Galactica Complete Series MSRP: $299.98.
Those are the only two that come immediately to my mind.
... and on another note: Wow, is that R.O.D. set majorly overpriced or what...

The argument can be made that those other two are compilations of individually available season sets.
As far as R.O.D.'s high cost is concerned, it's probably because of all the extras. It's pretty much the same set as released in Japan.

Re: Most expensive North American Blu release?
Aniplex has some terribly priced Blu-Rays. Surprisingly, the R.O.D. one doesn't seem that bad to me considering it's the full series (26 episodes) and 3 OVAs.
I think that the Anime titles are definitely the most expensive. Honneamise is $80 retail (and usually sells for that!) - the 'Freedom' series was also very expensive ($40 MSRP (usually sold for $30-40) per EPISODE - I think they did 5 or 6 total).

The R.O.D. price is inexcusable to me but then I've never accepted the outrageous Japanese DVD/Blu-ray pricing structure. We have DVD/Blu-ray releases in America which people can actually afford to get and they often have substantial extras too. To want around $7 per 30 minute episode seems more than a little ridiculous to me but I suppose others are free to spend the hefty price tag should they choose to.

I'm pretty sure the OP only meant legitimate retailer prices, not after-market/second-hand "collectible" ebay auction prices of something that was pulled by the manufacturer due to the format war....
Paramount never set a $399.99 MSRP on the title, so it doesn't count....

This is probably my favorite anime series, but I don't see it being worth that price. It's very likely an upconvert, and I went to a lot of trouble collecting the both the DVD box and book set.
