Synopsis:

Spoiler:
The group rally around Pierce to offer comfort when his mother dies. Elsewhere, an out-of-his-element Professor Duncan takes the helm of Anthropology 101 after Professor Bauer takes a leave of absence.

Betty White is apparently supposed to guest star as that crazy professor again.

Britta's comment about guys having socks at home with Annie's name on it killed me. And then Annie's response of her not caring if people making sock puppets of her.

Everyone notice what Abed was doing? We caught it at the end and rewound the episode to see what we missed. Absolutely brilliant. It's crazy how much I didn't notice.

Britta and Annie's oil fight was maybe the best thing I've ever seen.

I don't have a DVR and watch it live so I couldn't rewind, otherwise I would have. Don't really want to wait for Hulu to have it up tomorrow either, so would you mind putting what he was doing in spoilers?

Spoiler:
Looked like he was helping a pregnant woman who was about to deliver a baby. This is all while Jeff and Duncan were talking in the cafeteria.

That was sort of strange, but I didn't connect it to what Shirley said until later.

Oh, it went on the whole episode.

Spoiler:
at first he was comforting the girl. Then later he got in a fight with the guy. Then she went into labor. And later Abed was delivering the baby in the back of a car. At the end the couple was holding the new baby.

It was happening right behind the main scenes. I'm amazed I didn't see it until the end.

I need to watch this episode again, I noticed something at the end in the back of the van, but that is hilarious.

Abed's subplot was tying up the cycle of life and death.

Well played!

This episode was available OnDemand within like 3 hours of airing, think that's a record for Comcast

Not my favorite episode but I loved what they did with Abed's background story.

I read this thread before I watched and STILL missed most of the Abed story. I can't imagine how many casual viewers missed it completely.

Re: Community -- "The Psychology of Letting Go" -- 10/07/10

Not as funny as last week's episode, but it had its moments. The restraining order force field scenes were pretty funny, and the post-credits scene with Betty White discussing Inception with the two tribe members wasn't too bad either (especially the final bit). And let's not forget Brita and Annie oil wrestling

For some reason the only line from the episode I can remember is Patton Oswalt's:

These paps aren't going to smear themselves!

The Britta-Annie oil-fest was reason enough to give this episode a passable assessment. The force-field stuff was just weird.

I noticed the pregnant chick in the background right away, and every scene she was in after that.
Kinda tough to miss, actually...

Except if you didn't notice her at first. It honestly shows me how much I'm used to ignoring the background characters, no matter what they do.

Re: Community -- "The Psychology of Letting Go" -- 10/07/10

I definitely didn't notice the stuff with Abed until they were in the van. Even then, my lack of HD meant I couldn't tell what they were doing in there. I'll have to watch the episode again, but the whole bit strikes me as something I'll find more clever than funny.

Overall I thought it was a weaker episode. It's interesting that the last two episodes have attempted to get inside Jeff's head and we really have learned a lot about his character, but that doesn't always make for the most entertaing tv. The whole "Pierce in a cult" thing was something I thought would be a throwaway gag, so it was weird to see that explored more. I'm not sure I really liked it. And while I know that there's a quite a few anti-Ken Jeong people out there, I am not one of them. However, the stuff with him and the psychologist (can't remember his name) did not work for me. I don't think I really like that character and am glad the actor declined to be a regular member of the cast.

Re: Community -- "The Psychology of Letting Go" -- 10/07/10

I saw Abed in the background of one scene and figured it was some kind of recurring gag since he didn't seem to be in much of the episode otherwise. I wasn't giving the episode my full attention last night so I'll have to watch it again.

I really liked Patton Oswalt's part though. His shot at the Indiana Jones franchise was perfect for him.

It's a testament to Annie's boobs that even though they were pretty much covered this entire ep, they were still the focal point and moved the plot forward. That's called talent.

St. Louis decided to air some bullshit Inside Cardinals Nation special instead of Community. The Cardinals didn't even make the fucking playoffs!

I saw the Abed thing right from the beginning, and once you caught it at the beginning, it was hard to miss. Overall, it was a weaker episode. My favorite part was Troy saying Pierce's mother crawled out to the garage to die, like a cat. That line just cracked me up.
