Are Shrink Wrapped Movies Returned?
Hi, I just bought Iron Man 2 on Blu-ray. Strangely it came in shrink wrap and had no security stickers. Surely someone could not have returned the movie already? Is it common for movies to come in shrink wrap with no security stickers? This doesn't happen very often to me.

I don't know how common it is, but I've noticed this on a few occasions myself.
Likely not a return, though, as stores can't re-shrinkwrap as sell as new.

Don't worry about the stickers. Most studios are phasing out the security stickers. I haven't had them on a new release in quite a while.

Re: Are Shrink Wrapped Movies Returned?
Most studio DVDs that come in the standard Amary-style cases are overwrapped and most of the time have a security sticker. Box sets, Digi-packs and possibly Warner snapper cases usually require shrink wrap.
It's possible someone may have bought it, copied it, then returned it. A few stores now have an "All Sales Final" policy for DVDs and Blu-ray because of this.
If the disc and case appears new I wouldn't sweat it. As soon as you remove the wrap it's "used" anyway.

For the most part, I wouldn't worry about it.
You can usually tell when DVDs are "re-wrapped" (they don't have the same quality machines you get form the factory - it's usually a "quick and dirty" job, sometimes using a hairdryer and some cheap wrapping, giving it a "rough" finish (bits of plastic hanging off at the seams) instead of the tight/professional ones you get from the factory).
With that said, I recently bought some movies from the grocery store - they looked professionally sealed and still had the security label on top, but were definitely rental copies. Probably sent off to have them re-wrapped, and they did a much better job than the "in store" wraps.

I've noticed the security sticker is being left off a lot lately too.
But as someone who worked in retail with DVDS, they sometimes come to the store without the shrink wrap. I'd just use our machine to wrap them...so new, but rewrapped. You could tell that it was the store wrap, because of the sealed line on one side, however, I did get some factory wrapped DVDs that looked worse than the job I could do.
The store I worked at had the policy where if it was opened, the only way it could be returned was for the exact same item. So the open item would be sent back as damaged.

Um, yes, they can, but legitimate businesses do not do that 99.998% of the time (or so). And electronic media is an area where it's much more likely to be 100% of the time.
Pawn shops? Mom & Pop video joints? Flea-bay? Yeah, sure, some unscrupulous assholes do that; there's some in every line of business, too. But not Best Buy, Target, K-Mart, Meijer, Sears, etc., etc., etc.

Got Nightmare on Elm St. today and no security stickers.
Unfortunately, the studios that I wish would stop the stickers (Lionsgate - which uses 3 stickers and leaves all sorts of residue) continue to use them
