And, unlike Doakes, he's crooked. I've never liked Quinn, and it's disappointing to me that he has losted longer than Doakes, who was a great character.

This episode wasn't bad but it felt like a filler before we get to the real meat of the season. Not too worried about it though since this show tends to be slow its first couple episodes before the shit really hits the fan.

I don't like the storyline with Laguerta and Angel. I mean it's always been bad but now with them trying to take it seriously... please stop.

Good episode, but it was definitely a filler. In my opinion, a filler Dexter episode is still better then any of the other fall shows I watch.

Even though I don't care too much for the side characters LaGuerta pretty much blew off any real explanation of how she deposited over 10 grand in the bank in 1 month.

It seemed less like filler to me than the real finale to Season 4.

Another buildup episode, though I did like how we're going to get to some meat soon. A few thoughts:
Actor who plays Astor is still doing a horrible job, and Cody is right behind her. I was going to say that I would have liked to see what happened in grief counseling, but looking back on their acting...maybe it's a good thing that we were spared that.
Speaking of which: Astor and Cody were on very good terms with Dexter towards the end of last season. Dexter's mother had made up with her and wanted to play a part in the children's lives, after treating Rita like crap during season one. It would make more sense for Rita's death to open those fresh wounds on the mother, with her at least directing some anger towards Dexter, rather than Astor being the only one upset with him, partially as an easy way to get the kids out of the picture for the time being, plotwise.
Dexter didn't have his abdominal scar while swimming...surprised that Hall and the crew missed that. Batista is being his usual self, going to everyone he knows for their opinion (like the time he asked everyone about the necklace to get for his ex-wife). Quinn and Debb having opposite assumptions about Batista's open ended question was a nice touch.
And is it just me or is Deb cursing a lot less so far?

I do not like where this season is heading.
LaGuerta/Angel storyline is gawd-awful.
Quinn is Doakes redux. Doakes was 10x better.
Hopefully Astor(terrible actress; even MCH couldn't save the scenes between the two)/Cody are gone for good. Speaking of which, why didn't the grandparents take Harrison?
Don't care about the electrocuter or the gang homicide.
At least Masuka's scenes were entertaining.
Just seems like same old, same old. What a huge letdown from last season so far.

Did it show that? I thought it was just that she had accumulated $250,000. It's her retirement fund, my guess is it was built up over time.

Agreed about Astor, girl needs some acting classes. While Cody isn't particularly great at it, he runs laps around Astor.

Yeah, this season isnt shaping up too great for me right now... Besides Deb and Dexter, no one else is interesting. Ive always hated Quinn and now its just getting worse. They got rid of Astor and Cody so I still have faith that it will still be a pretty good season this year.

Regarding Angel and LaGuerta, I *really* can't believe the writers are giving us more of these characters' involvement. Did they not see/hear the onslaught of complaints from last season? Or, do they simply not care what the fans think?

Speaking of her...where is Rita's mother? She should have been at the funeral and probably be around wanting to take Astor and Cody. Did Dexter ever adopt Astor and Cody? If he did, then he should be keeping them, but so I assume that he did not. I could see Rita's mom or Paul's parents wanted to take them but I don't think it would be left up to Astor to make the decision as she seemed to do.

Astor's a bit of a shit for not caring about Cody's feelings, nor caring about their half brother. They should get sick of their grandparents soon, eating early, going to sleep early, being forced to watch Wheel of Fortune.

Lame question but who's parents are the grandparents? I forgot about Rita's mom and was thinking those were her's.

Those are Paul's (Rita's ex who died in prison) parents. They are the biological grandparents of Astor and Cody, but not of Harrison. Rita's mom was featured in season 2 and was played by JoBeth Williams. If she was on this season, she would definitely be more pissed at Dexter because she was suspicious of him originally. As far as I know, she will not be returning this season. I'm not sure what happened to Rita's dad but her mom was either divorced or widowed...can't remember.

I have no complaints. I think both Christina Robinson and Preston Bailey did fine in this episode. There are no worse than a lot of teen and adult actors on other shows.

Yeah people are being really hard on the kids playing Astor and Cody. I mean they aren't the greatest, but really they haven't been much more than supporting side characters the entire time the show has been on. These have been the first couple episodes where they've actually been a little bigger part of the show. Give them a break.
I also don't really care about the Angel/LaGuerta storyline. It sucks because to me Angel was actually a decent character the first few seasons then for whatever reason they felt the need to couple him up with LaGuerta (who has never been a strong point on this show in my opinion).
Quinn isn't my favorite character but I do understand why they are using his character the way they are. Its more interesting for Dexter to have a rival to go against. Still he never will be half the character Doakes was..
