Guess I can finally get this one at some point when it gets cheap. One of those I like but not enough to buy full price.

Not a movie I would ever have the desire to sit through again, but at least the digibook fanatics that have replaced the steelbook fanatics will be happy.

Replaced? I'm a Digibook fanatic AND a Steelbook fanatic. In fact, I'm hoping they start making Digibooks out of steel.

DigiBooks are far better than steelbooks. I mean, you get a mini-BOOK with the release which has interesting tidbits about the films. I find that far more appealing and actually worthy of the extra attention and care being given.

As for this film, I've actually never seen The Color Purple. I own the 2-Disc DVD (I got it as a Birthday gift a few years ago and still haven't watched it). Having said that Spielberg is one of my all time favorite filmmakers and this is only one of four films by him I haven't seen yet. I'm wondering if I should just sell my DVD and buy this on sale or watch the film first...

I've never seen this movie. I figured they would've waited a month to release it during Black History Month.

Awesome, so we can expect the regular case by March sometime. I will then be buying.

I like Digibooks a lot, my comment was referring to the collectors here that just buy films based on the packaging only (& there are a lot of people here that do that). I knew there were steelbook freaks that did this, but I never knew until recently that digibooks at the same fanaticism.

I'm just the weirdo I guess, since I only buy the movies I actually like, and try to get them for as cheap as possible.

And unless I really want it, like Apocalypse Now for example, I'll buy it at full price.

One of the main reasons why I love digibooks is because they've yet to release one for a film I didn't want. It's not that I'll buy any digibook regardless of the film, it's that I enjoy all the films being given digibook treatments.

That doesn't explain the infatuation with them so extreme that you pay extremely high prices to get movies from around the country just because of the packaging when the same movies are available in the US for much much cheaper (Blade Runner, Batman Begins) just to name a few. That is absolutely insane IMO and shows that packaging means more than the content of the film.

Yes, it's literally insane to harmlessly spend some of my disposable income on silly little collector's items like millions of other people around the world do.

You're pretty judgmental and obnoxious. Here's a suggestion: care less.

Sessa17: what you're doing in this thread is what we call trolling. Keep it up, and you will be suspended/banned.

EVERYONE: enough digibook complaints. If you don't like it, then stay out of this thread or any other digibook thread. You've all been warned before.

If that makes you a weirdo then I guess that makes two of us here. Granted, I've probably blind bought way more movies than normal, but at least it's films I want to see and usually I get really good deals on them.

Mod Note: So is every release announcement for a digibook going to spark a discussion about digibooks in general? Please limit comments to this movie and this release.

Sorry, over 10 years here & that is my first threat, I didn't know this was a big deal, there are countless posts by many people stating the same things I did. I'll refrain from doing such again.

Re: Spielberg's 'The Color Purple' 1/25/11 in digibook format

When I saw this thread, I said to myself...'I will not buy this on Blu-ray, I haven't even bothered to crack open the shrinkwrap on your 2-Disc Special Edition', then I opened this thread and saw that digibook! I'll wait on the reviews, but I already know I'll add this to my collection.

And yes, it's beautiful. This movie makes me cry every single time.

I like the movie and the soundtrack could sound pretty great in lossless
