Re: Mike & Molly -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

Yeah, I watched it because I thought Melissa McCarthy was funny enough in Gilmore Girls and Samantha Who?, and I like Chuck Lorre's stuff, though I hate 2 and a Half Men.

It was OK, nothing special, though I thought it was a bit raunchy for a Big-3 sitcom. A character smoking an apple bong? And when did "Bitches" and "Farts" become ok for TV? Not that I'm offended by it, just surprised.

Didn't find it very funny - not too surprising since the only CBS comedy I can even tolerate is How I Met Your Mother. I'm out.

Re: Mike & Molly -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

It wasn't as horrible as I expected it to be. I thought it would be a one-dimensional show and just an endless barrage of fat jokes, but they did have other targets. That, and as long as Katy Mixon is on there, there is something worth seeing.

As for raunch, Two And A Half Men either raised the bar or lowered the bar on it depending on your perspective. What that show gets away with amazes me. Mike & Molly has nothing on that show in terms of crudeness.

And I'm not complaining either.

Even HIMYM and Rules of Engagement can be risque at times, but not as much as 2.5 Men.
Remember when Lucy & Ricky had to have twin beds? Yeah, me neither. Fuck it.

Re: Mike & Molly -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

never noticed the notes at the end of 2.5 men, but I loved this week's:

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #289

AN OPEN LETTER TO OUR NETWORK CENSOR

Dear (Name Omitted by Network Censor),
Please know that I am committed to making season eight of Two and a Half Men as easy for you as possible. I have vowed to eliminate all the penis jokes, vagina jokes, boob jokes, ass jokes, orgasm jokes, masturbation jokes, oral sex jokes, prison sex jokes, insertion jokes, pee jokes, poop jokes, booger jokes, puke jokes, fart jokes and ethnic jokes that have caused you and your colleagues at broadcast standards so much distress. Going forward, I sincerely hope this letter helps you to put aside any worries you might have about the creative direction of the show.

Your faithful servant,
Chuck Lorre

P.S. Look forward to hearing your comments regarding tonight's episode which dealt with Jake having a menage a trois while Charlie drinks himself to death and Alan gets caught banging Jake's best friend's drug-addled mom..

Eh, a sitcom with a fat guy hooked up with an equally fat woman? Television finally really is catching up with real life.

Maybe I just still love Sookie, but I enjoyed this more than Raising Hope or Running Wilde.

Re: Mike & Molly -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

Raising Hope > Mike & Molly > Running Wilde

It was pretty bland and generic, but I'll give it a couple of episodes to come around. The first episode tends to be weak with all shows since they have to establish relationships, etc.

I assumed that this was a US version of Gavin & Stacey for some reason, but I guess it's not.

Re: Mike & Molly -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

I liked this show when it was Mike and Molly talking to each other. I didn't like it when the writers were laughing at fat people.

The sidekicks were funny, with the exception of the diner cook.

Am I the only one who thinks that Katy Mixon looks like a blow up doll? I don't know if it's real or if she had surgery done.

Every time, I see Swoosie Kurtz, I think of Pushing Daisies. I miss that show.

Not too funny at all and with the anti eye candy in this show, not looking good. May check out one more episode

It will do some numbers just based on the time slot. Remember location, location, location. But overall I found it pretty benign.

Tired of whomever the "sexy" sister is, typecast much plus she's not sexy.
Also is that house the RoseannE house looks exactly the same.

I am interested to see if they will discuss that being overweight is unhealthy and they will both lose weight over the course of the series. What's funny about two Obese people?
Seems like Melissa McCarthy is playing the same exact character she played on Gilmore Girls and Samantha Who.

Evidently all it takes for fat people to hook up is self-deprecating humor. Check.

Thought the second episode was better than the first. The car ride home had my wife and I in tears.

Probably a love-it or hate-it show, but it makes me laugh.
