Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

The first "major network" pilot has premiered, so I figured it's time to start the new ratings thread.

"Ameria's Got Talent," "Big Brother," and "Masterchef" all aired finales on Wednesday, crowning their winners. In the battle of the reality competition shows, though, AGT took the crown.

CBS kicked off their latest "Survivor" adventure and took the number one slot in the adults 18-49 demo. Additionally, NBC debuted the Jimmy Smits-led legal drama "Outlaw" to a respectable 10 million viewers.

In averages, NBC won with 14.3 million viewers and a 8.5 rating/14 share in households. CBS followed with 9.2 million people and a 5.3/9 for second, and FOX took third with a 4.7 million, 2.8/5. ABC was next with 3.9 million, 2.7/4, and The CW trailed with 2.7 million, 1.7/3.

The 18-49 adult demographic went to NBC with a 3.3 rating, but CBS didn't trail far with a 3.2. The rest: Fox, 2.0, The CW, 1.2, and ABC, 1.2.

Wednesday's hour-by-hour results:

8 p.m.

NBC: "America's Got Talent Results Show" (13.8 million, 8.2/14)
CBS: "Survivor: Nicaragua" (12 million viewers, 6.8/11 households)
FOX: "MasterChef" (4.3 million, 2.6/4)
ABC: "The Middle" reruns (3.9 million, 2.7/5)
The CW: "America's Next Top Model" (2.9 million, 1.9/3)

18-49 leader: "Survivor" (3.9)

9 p.m.

NBC: "America's Got Talent Results Show" (18.2 million viewers, 7.2/12)
CBS: "Big Brother 12" (8.0 million, 4.5/7)
FOX: "MasterChef" (5.1 million, 3.0/5)
ABC: "Modern Family" rerun (4.4 million, 3.0/5), "Cougar Town" rerun (3.4 million, 2.3/4)
The CW: "Hellcats" (2.7 million, 1.6/3)

18-49 leader: "America's Got Talent" (4.4)

10 p.m.

NBC: "Outlaw" (10.9 million, 6.8/12)
CBS: "Big Brother 12" (7.7 million, 4.5/8)
ABC: "Castle" rerun (3.9 million, 2.7/5)

18-49 leader: "Big Brother" (2.8)
Edit: All ratings posts from me will come from Zap2it. They don't have a distinct URL this season for each day's ratings, they just seem to be updating the same page. Therefore, everything is taken from here: http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

The series premiere of NIKITA matched The CW’s all-time best ratings in the Thursday 9-10:00p.m. time period among women 18-34 (1.9/5), according to preliminary Live Plus Same Day Nielsen ratings for Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. NIKITA also delivered the largest audience (3.6million) in the time period in over 18 months, since 1/29/09.

NIKITA delivered year-to-year gains, improving on the SUPERNATURAL debut last season by 12% in women 18-34 and 6% in total viewers. NIKITA also built on its VAMPIRE DIARIES premiere lead-in by 9% in total viewers (3.6mil v. 3.3mil).

The second season opener of The CW’s sophomore hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES scored its best women 18-34 (2.8/9) performance since 2/4/10.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES was virtually flat with its explosive season finale last May, in all key demographics. VAMPIRE DIARIES retained a large chunk of its massive series premiere last year, keeping about 87% of its year ago adults 18-34 (1.9/6) and 90% of its year ago women 18-34 (2.8/9) delivery.

Despite facing a gigantic season opener for the NFL, The CW scored its highest rated Thursday night with women 18-34 (2.3/7) and women 18-49 (2.0/6) in almost a year, since 11/12/09.

With debuts of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and NIKITA, The CW ranked second on Thursday night among women 18-34 (2.3/5), adults 18-34 (1.6/5), females 12-34 (2.2/7) and persons 12-34 (1.5/5).

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

The return of the non-celebrity "Apprentice" got off to a pretty poor start Thursday, failing to draw even 5 million viewers against mostly rerun competition. The CW's lineup, meanwhile, dipped some from its premiere last week, and viewers followed "The Big Bang Theory" to its new home.

CBS ended the night on top, averaging 7.9 million viewers and a 5.1 rating/9 share among households. ABC (5.75 million, 3.7/6) came in second, followed by NBC (4.3 million, 2.8/5). The CW's 3.2 million viewers and 2.0/4 was good enough for fourth, topping FOX's 2.45 million and 1.7/3.

CBS was the only network to pass the 2.0 mark among adults 18-49, drawing a 2.2 rating for the evening. ABC finished second in the demo at 1.8. NBC, 1.4, took third, followed by The CW, 1.3, and FOX, 0.7.

Thursday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

CBS: "The Big Bang Theory" reruns - two episodes (7.8 million viewers, 5.0/9 households)
ABC: "Wipeout" rerun (6.5 million, 3.8/7)
NBC: "The Office" reruns - two episodes (3.5 million, 2.4/4)
The CW: "The Vampire Diaries" (3 million, 1.9/3)
FOX: "Fringe" rerun (2.35 million, 1.6/3)

18-49 leader: "The Big Bang Theory" (2.2)

9 p.m.

CBS: "The Big Bang Theory" reruns - two episodes (8.3 million, 5.3/9)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" rerun (4.9 million, 3.2/5)
NBC: "The Apprentice" season premiere (4.55 million, 2.9/5)
The CW: "Nikita" (3.4 million, 2.1/4)
FOX: "Fringe" rerun (2.5 million, 1.7/3)

18-49 leader: "The Big Bang Theory" (2.6)

10 p.m.

CBS: "The Mentalist" rerun (7.7 million, 5.1/9)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" rerun (5.8 million, 3.9/7)
NBC: "The Apprentice" season premiere (4.8 million, 3.2/6)

18-49 leader: "Grey's Anatomy" (1.9)

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

Vampire Diaries is down, which is surprising. Last season there was one point when it creeped close to 5M viewers and also did great in the demos.

That's horrible numbers for the 2 hour premiere of The Apprentice. It also got a 1.5 in the demos which sucks.

The numbers should be higher next week for Friday as Supernatural, Smallville, Medium, CSI NY and Blue Bloods premiere.

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

The 2010-11 season kicked into full gear Monday with decidedly mixed results for new shows. "Hawaii Five-0," "Mike & Molly" and "The Event" all performed pretty well, but FOX's "Lone Star" got hammered in a highly competitive 9 p.m. timeslot.

Thanks to a strong premiere from "Dancing With the Stars" -- the evening's most-watched show -- ABC won the first night of the season. It averaged 17.7 million viewers and an 11.3 rating/18 share among households in primetime. CBS (11.9 million, 7.4/11) was a healthy second. NBC took third with 8.4 million viewers and a 5.1/8, beating out FOX (7.3 million, 4.3/7). The CW (2 million, 1.3/2) trailed.

ABC also led among adults 18-49, though the race was closer. It scored a 4.2 rating in the demographic to beat out CBS' 3.8. NBC, 2.8, edged FOX, 2.7, for third, while The CW came in at 1.0.

Monday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing With the Stars" season premiere (20.1 million viewers, 12.8/20 households)
FOX: "House" season premiere (10.5 million, 6.1/9)
CBS: "How I Met Your Mother" season premiere (8.8 million, 5.3/8)/"Rules of Engagement" season premiere (8.3 million, 5.1/8)
NBC: "Chuck" season premiere (6.1 million, 3.5/5)
The CW: "90210" (2.15 million, 1.4/2)

18-49 leader: "Dancing With the Stars" (4.6)

9 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing With the Stars" season premiere (21.9 million, 13.9/21)
CBS: "Two and a Half Men" season premiere (14.5 million, 8.9/13)/"Mike & Molly" series premiere (12.2 million, 7.6/11)
NBC: "The Event" series premiere (11.2 million, 6.8/10)
FOX: "Lone Star" series premiere (4.1 million, 2.5/4)
The CW: "Gossip Girl" (1.9 million, 1.2/2)

18-49 leader: "Dancing With the Stars" (5.3)

10 p.m.

CBS: "Hawaii Five-0" series premiere (13.8 million, 8.6/14)
ABC: "Castle" season premiere (11.2 million, 7.2/12)
NBC: "Chase" series premiere (7.9 million, 5.0/8)

18-49 leader: "Hawaii Five-0" (3.8)
Happy to see Castle picking up where it left off last season in the ratings.

Chuck picked up more than a million viewers from it's finale, so hopefully that's a good trend.

Wow! Lone Star got absolutely hammered. It lost about 6M of House's audience.

No surprise considering it was going against Dancing with the Stars and heavily promoted The Event (as well as Two and a Half Men). DwtS will keep its death grip on Monday but The Event should drop to about 8m next week, if Lonestar makes it that long it at least has a slight shot at growth.

I had no idea why Fox would put Lone Star on that day and timeslot, it'd probably do better on a Wednesday 9 p.m. timeslot.

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

"NCIS" and "Glee" began their seasons at the top of the ratings chart Tuesday, with CBS' veteran drama grabbing the biggest total audience and FOX's musical grabbing the demographic crown. None of the night's three new shows, though, did anything spectacular.

CBS finished the night on top overall with 16.1 million viewers and a 9.9 rating/16 share in households. ABC (13.35 million, 8.6/14) came in second thanks to a strong "Dancing With the Stars" results show. FOX (9.5 million, 5.4/9) took third, a good bit ahead of NBC, which drew 6.7 million viewers and a 4.1/7. The CW (1.7 million, 1.1/2) was well off the pace.

Thanks to "Glee," FOX led the adults 18-49 demo with a 4.1 rating, topping the 3.4 for CBS. ABC finished third with a 3.1. NBC's 2.7 took fourth, while The CW drew only a 0.8.

Tuesday's hourly results:

8 p.m.

CBS: "NCIS" season premiere (18.9 million viewers, 11.5/18 households)
FOX: "Glee" season premiere (12.3 million, 6.9/11)
ABC: "Dancing With the Stars" recap special (12 million, 7.8/12)
NBC: "The Biggest Loser" season premiere (6.6 million, 3.9/6)
The CW: "One Tree Hill" (1.9 million, 1.3/2)

18-49 leader: "Glee" (5.5)

9 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing With the Stars" results (18.3 million, 11.5/18)
CBS: "NCIS: Los Angeles" season premiere (15.7 million, 9.6/15)
NBC: "The Biggest Loser" season premiere (7.7 million, 4.4/7)
FOX: "Raising Hope" series premiere (7.5 million, 4.5/7)/"Running Wilde" series premiere (5.9 million, 3.4/5)
The CW: "Life Unexpected" (1.5 million, 1.0/2)

18-49 leader: "Dancing With the Stars" (4.3)

10 p.m.

CBS: "NCIS: Los Angeles" season premiere (13.6 million, 8.5/14)
ABC: "Detroit 1-8-7" series premiere (9.75 million, 6.5/11)
NBC: "Parenthood" (5.9 million, 3.8/6)

18-49 leader: "NCIS: Los Angeles" (3.0)

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

The CW shows unfortunately got buried last night with all the extra competition. Things are looking grim for Life Unexpected.

Tuesday at 10pm are going to be interesting next week when The Good Wife premieres. I think it's pretty much a lock for 1st in the timeslot. Parenthood's numbers don't seem impressive, but it's hanging in there in the 18-49 demos. It got a 2.4 in the demos, which is not great, but not horrible either.

Decent numbers for Detroit 1-8-7 despite losing 50% of the viewing audience from DWTS.

The big drop from Raising Hope to Running Wilde worries me. It looks like a lot of people tuned in to RH and didn't like what they saw and tuned out.

Nice to see that Glee didn't need idol or anything like that to get high numbers (isn't 12.3 above what it did last season towards the end when they didn't have american idol before it?

edit, yes it was. a google search reveals that the season finale did 11.1 mil viewers

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part V (2010-2011 Season)

"Modern Family" followed up its Emmy win with its biggest audience ever on Wednesday, but CBS' lineup was stronger over the course of the night and recorded a ratings victory. The new shows were a mixed bag -- "The Defenders" started pretty well for CBS, and "Undercovers" and "Better With You" did OK, but ABC's "The Whole Truth" struggled.
