It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - "Mac Fights Gay Marriage" (9/16/10)

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - “Mac Fights Gay Marriage” (9/16/10)

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Mac pulls out the big guns to protect the sanctity of marriage, while the rest of the gang reaps the rewards of marital bliss.

Really looking forward to the show's return. My friends are requesting them, so against my better judgment I’m going to be making some Grilled Charlies again for the premiere.

I've never been brave enough to eat one, let alone even trying to make one.

Should be a great hour of comedy with this and The League back-to-back.

Re: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - "Mac Fights Gay Marriage" (9/16/10)

The synopsis I posted above is pretty vague. Here's EW's short review, detailing the plot a little more:

Spoiler:
Six seasons in, and Sunny continues to be a shining example of how to expertly combine smart political commentary with the basest of humor. Tonight the gang debates gay marriage when Mac (Rob McElhenney) discovers his ex-girlfriend, a post-op transsexual, married another man. Before long, all of Paddy's Pub has marriage on the mind: Charlie (Charlie Day) and Frank (Danny DeVito) consider tying the knot for the health benefits, and Dennis (Glenn Howerton) impulsively weds his high school gal pal. It's not one of Sunny's most epic episodes, but you'll still say ''I do'' to the gang.

It's better than you'd think, but still quite odd. And it's freakin' messy to make AND eat. I vowed that once was enough for me and most of my friends that were going to come over to watch the premiere bailed, so I'm nixing tonight's Grilled Charlies. Whew!

That scene with Dennis kicking Mac out was amazing.

Solid premiere. Really glad to have the show back on the air. Nice to see Brittany Daniel return as Carmen the Transsexual; I like that this show is able to make use of the same actors/actresses in roles and doesn't have to constantly recast people.

Very interesting that they didn't resolve Dennis' marriage in a single episode. I'm glad they left it unresolved though, there's a lot of potential in that storyline.

Mac saying he would rather be shot in the face than married to Dee was even funnier when you know they're married in real life.

Brittany Daniel is so freaking hot that I would still totally do her even if she really were a tranny, post or pre op!

Just got the beginning of the repeat after The League.

I forgot Mac used electrical plugs to illustrate gay sex/marriage, lol.

Maureen talking about her dad's suicide was pretty funny too.

Dee gagging was horrendous. It was pretty damn realistic. In real life, I have the same type of reaction as Mac. I can't stand to even hear people gag. Yuck.

This episode felt really anti-climatic and short, but still funny.

I'm not sure the Dennis marriage story is one that will be the subject of any sort of arc. Based on prior episodes, I wouldn't be shocked for nothing to be said about it for half a season and it come up again in some sort of random and unexpected way (like finding the woman is now a heroin addict who has hooked up with Rickety Cricket).

reading the synopsis for next week
Spoiler:
looks like it will be at least a 2 episode arc as the marriage is referenced in the synopsis

I watched the show after eating a big plate of Mexican food. I almost chucked it back up after watching that. Funny stuff anyways.

I loved the return of the gagging, she does that in such a great hilarious way. The last time was when, when she tried to do standup?

I, too, think the gagging's hilarious. I watched that stand up clip just yesterday and it still floored me. Kaitlin Olson commits 100% to the physical comedy on this show. IMO, she's the best female sitcom actress since Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

She looks just as good now as when she was on Sweet Valley High. Incredible body.

at the gagging and Mac's biblical debate with the dude from the Miller High Life commercials.

He was also one of the supremely unfunny security guards in Scrubs' last season.

Re: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - "Mac Fights Gay Marriage" (9/16/10)

For whatever reason, the funniest part to me was when Dennis was kicking Mac out of the apartment. Dennis "You actually don't own a single thing in here."
Mac "That can't be true."

Something about the way Mac delieved that line had me in rolling.

Dee's gagging is great, and Mac coming into the bar talking "Where's the GD bible." Funny stuff.

Re: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - "Mac Fights Gay Marriage" (9/16/10)

God I love this show. It's amazing how much stuff you can miss the first time you watch also (I just rewatched "That can't be true," and you're right... fantastic!)

The extension cords analogy was the best, right up there with Mac slapping his hands together simulating balls against ass.

Brilliant!
