Sons of Anarchy -- "Oiled" -- 09/14/10

Synopsis:
Spoiler:
To get intel on Abel’s whereabouts, Jax and the club help a bounty hunter track down a skip. They also press a source for answers about the attack at Half-Sack's wake -- the MC way. Meanwhile, Gemma deals with her father's dementia.

The club is hurting...Abel, the attack. Good moment between Clay and Jax at the wake last week...curious to see how Jax handles it.

Don't say that about Hal Holbrook.

Based on the final scene last week, Jax has snapped out of his self-pity and is going to get very proactive.

I think it's probably not a good idea to put too many expectations on this Gemma's dad storyline. While it may go somewhere, it may very well be just a way to keep Gemma in the picture while on the run. The actress is fucking the boss, after all.

I swear, after Gemma's dad saw Tig and didn't recognize him earlier in the episode, I thought he was going to shoot Tig thinking he was an intruder. I was close, lol.

Looking forward to it. Here's one of Kurt Sutter's comments on Twitter after the premiere:

didn't read reviews. so if you gave us a bad one, fuck you & your fat-ass little-dick, bad-toupee, cock-needing, wish-i-mattered existence
This guy is great.

He mentioned that episode 11 is running long editing-wise, so expect a 90 minute episode.

He also mentioned they are currently shooting the season finale right now.

I love how if they can't make their show fit into a one-hour time slot FX just adjusts the schedule for them.

Solid episode. They definitely needed to sort of pump the brakes after last week's incredible ending. Interesting developments going on; I think we're gonna see Bobby take a much more active mentor role for Jax and try to stop him from going over to Clay's side.

That scene with the guy being buried was hyped in the previews, but was actually kind of a let down. Cool concept, but I wasn't feeling the execution of the scene.

I liked how Opie got all distracted when he saw his girlfriend on the cover of the porn tape. Then he just walks back there and is like, "Uh, sorry guys."

Can anyone tell me what the priest said at the end? Couldn't quite make it out.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Oiled" -- 09/14/10

I enjoyed it. It was however a purely expositional episode.

^ I agree the scene with the member of the Lodi gang being buried was a disappointment especially after their confrontation in his place. Big build up to pretty much nothing.

One question I have is why did the Priest/Leader of that IRA group have Cameron killed? I'm not sure I understood the relationship they have with Samcro.

That was awesome that Nate shot Tig after he was banging the Guatty hotty. I liked how she got greedy after seeing the FBI reward bulletin. at Gemma for capturing her and calling her the greedy Guatty.

at Tig's fear of the ceramic dolls.

at Opie for being pissed at seeing the Porno DVD's of his girlfriend.

How long ago did Tara beat the crap out of her boss? I was surprised to see the bruises on her face still there.

Overall, after the shocking end to last week, the show took a step back, but it was a good set up for future episodes.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Oiled" -- 09/14/10

This show drives me nuts with the characters whispering and mumbling sometimes and the priest scenes were a great example of that. I don't have a hearing problem, but damned if I might not start putting on the captioning.

In this episode my wife was asking what else Jimmy from the IRA had been in. She was pretty sure it was Lost, and sure enough, he was the Man in Black. It looked like he's lost some weight.

They've had a relationship with SAMCRO for 20+ years where they smuggle in guns and sell them to SAMCRO. Who in turn sells them.

Cameron tipped off the ATF in an attempt to set up Jimmy and save his son's ass. He also killed a SAMCRO member and stole the grandson of the founder (John Teller) who established the initial relationship between the IRA & SAMCRO.

Not sure he could have survived one of those errors much less committing all 3.

The alzheimers storyline is a riot!

and obviously we see Jax being transformed from peacekeeper to all out attack, while Clay tries to nurture that some more. He wants Jax to be violent.

Exactly. I like that they're doing that. And they're setting it up for Bobby to come in between Jax and Clay and steer Jax in the right direction.

FX knows how to keep those that make them succesful happy. They did the same thing for The Shield and Nip/Tuck when they needed it.

Doh, that's right I do remember Cameron trying to screw Jimmy O. However, it didn't seem like they were anxious to return Abel. I get a kick out of Titus Welliver's really thick Irish accent.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Oiled" -- 09/14/10

I think it's extremely unrealistic that the feds aren't sitting on Gemma's dad's house or at least came around and made such a big stink that somebody like the caretaker would dime her out immediately.

I wonder, if the True IRA or Real IRA (I forget which one is real and which is for the show) want to punish the transgression against Samcro, why the baby is not on a plane back to Jax or something like that by now. The IRA knows where the kid is, if I understood the dialogue right.

I think, perhaps, the burial and ride by scene was unimpressive on purpose. In comparison to Alvarez, that guy is a punk in way over his head. Making the scene intense would give him more cred than I think Sutter wanted him to have.

I love that Tig continues to be Tig, even after his coming to terms a little bit about what he did to Donna. So inappropriate, but so perfect. I also wonder how Unser is going to play the carrot and stick offer from elder Hale.

It's really funny because creator Kurt Sutter actually suffers from Pediophobia (a fear of dolls).

at Tig this episode between the lube comments, plowing that Guatemalan and then getting shot.

Seriously. I find that aspect of the story very hard to follow.
