Going to Barcelona ... what to buy?

Borrowing another reader's question on what to buy in Italy , I will be going to Barcelona, Spain next month, any good dvd stores to recommend?

I'm looking for a good Pedro Almodovar set with English subtitles that doesn't cost as much as what Amazon. Any other Spanish films/director's works to recommend as well?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Going to Barcelona ... what to buy?

Have fun there! Barcelona is paradise and one of my favorite cities in the world. Make sure to walk around Old Town - it's the best old town out of all the old towns in Europe.

DVDs:
1. Julio Medem's TIERRA (http://www.dvdgo.com/dvd-tierra/1274856/5068): it's the only English-subtitled anamorphic version and it's a great film.
2. DUMBO DVD or blu-ray is out in Spain if you don't want to wait for the USA version.
3. Spanish animated masterpiece - EL GUERRERO SIN NOMBRE (http://www.dvdgo.com/dvd-el-guerrero...1294128/118819). This is an excellent PG-13 rated animated film. Anamorphic video and English subtitles.
4. Spain's Miyazaki-type animated film NOCTURNA (http://www.dvdgo.com/dvd-nocturna/1299421/124207). The DVD is anamorphic, English audio, but forced Spanish subtitles.
5. AGORA DVD or blu-ray if you don't want to wait for the probable USA version.

My favorite Spanish directors are Bigas Luna, Julio Medem, and Álex de la Iglesia. They are very exciting visually-entertaining directors - I would youtube some of the trailers of their movies to see if any of them interest you. Most of their Spain DVDs are English-subtitled.

STORES:
The DVD stores in Barcelona are great.
1. The biggest DVD/blu-ray selection is at EL CORTE INGLES (a dept store chain in Spain). http://www.elcorteingles.es/. Just ask around or look on the map - everyone knows where the stores are.
2. There is also FNAC, which is another huge chain store that has movies, books, music.
3. As you walk around town, you'll see a lot of used dvd stores.

FLEA MARKETS:
Flea markets are great for the best deals. Here's the list of flea markets through out the week:

Re: Going to Barcelona ... what to buy?

Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen some of Julio Medem works like Lovers Of The Arctic Circle and also Bigas Luna's The Tit And The Moon, Golden Balls and Jamon Jamon, like them too.

Saw in Amazon there is a Bigas Luna and Julio Medem boxset Collection (only available from sellers) hopefully I can find it in the local stores, hope the price is not too steep.

You might pop over to theimportforums.com and ask. Most of the members are from Europe and there are a few from Spain.

Does anyone know if dvdgo.com has retail stores or iftheyre online only?

I think DVDgo.com is online only. It doesn't matter, because most DVD stores in Spain are reasonably priced - same as USA stores.

El Corte Ingles! Great store. They have EVERYTHING there! Including a decent sized DVD/BD section.
