Old Movies that Should Have Modern Sequels
Assuming the new Tron movie is a success, you have to figure that other studios will look at their catalogue for old films that they can sequelize. The ideal film would be something with high nostalgia value for Gen-Xers but enough cool factor that modern teens would want to see it as well.
Possibilities:
The Last Star Fighter -- the movie ends with a sequel hook -- the Star League won a pyrrhic victory aganst the invasion fleet, but Xur escaped and the Kodan empire still exists beyond the Frontier. Who doesn't want to see a Gunstar done with modern effects?
Goonies -- people involved have been talking about a sequel for years, but it's never gone anywhere. I don't know where the story could go, but it'd be fun to revisit the characters as adults.
The Breakfast Club -- with Hughes' death, this probably won't go anywhere, but I'd love to see a high school reunion with the original characters. Just as the original examined the dynamics of high school cliques, a sequel would look at how those change in the real world.
The Rocketeer -- probably not popular enough to spawn a sequel, but I've been looking forward to one since the film came out.
Which classics from your childhood would you like to see continued nowadays (not rebooted, just continued).

I never liked Starfighter as a kid. I thought it was boring.
Goonies 2? Dunno how you'd be able to get a sequel going now...again..never liked the goonies but...to transplant that world into adult versions of those kids..again...you'd have to be able to convince the audience to not roll their eyes at it.
Breakfast Club sequel? No...never. I'm not even a big fan of it but it deserves to end where it ended properly.
I like The Rocketeer but a sequel to it is long dead...we need a good BD of this btw...

I wouldnt mind seeing a Last Starfighter sequel. I remember enjoying that movie as a kid. I also read the novelization numerous times.
The goonies I never saw as a kid. I did see it a couple of years ago, and it was OK. Maybe if I had seen it as a kid like most people my age, I would feel differently, but I dont see a need for a sequel to that one.

Casablanca. We could see the cafe in a modern day setting under new management, maybe have it be like a rebooted Coyote Ugly. Bam, two sequels in one.

Well The Last Starfighter came out 26 years ago and both The Goonies and The Breakfast Club came out 25 years ago.
I don't necessarily know at what point a movie becomes old, but I certainly wouldn't say that a 26 year old movie is new.
Time sure flies. It's hard to believe that Jaws is 35 years old. The Godather is 38 years old. Star Wars is 33 years old.

even though I'm pretty sure the majority of people here haven't seen or heard of this movie- I want to see a Psych-Out part 2 with Jack Nicholson reprising his role as Stoney 40+ years later in Haight Ashbury. I think it would make an awesome movie and story. I've said this before when I reviewed the movie years ago on badmovies.org

Seeing as how Psycho got a sequel about 20 years later, I think anything is possible. And that particular sequel wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, actually pretty decent.
I agree with The Last Starfighter and The Rocketeer and I'll add The Shadow, Nighthawks, and The Big Lebowski. Maybes are Wolf and Big Trouble in Little China.
I'll also add that I'm surprised at the hate of sequels as they are the best of both worlds: continuation of a story but not a complete retread of previous events like you get from a reboot. At least the theory of sequels is solid but it's the execution that has been lacking in many cases.

I don't know about yall but I'm still waiting for a History of the World Pt. II. That movie was made to have a sequel. I also second the Rocketeer, I just love that movie.
