Rubicon -- "Keep the Ends Out" -- 08/08/10
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Episode 3 of 13
I watched the 2 episodes that aired last week over the course of a couple of days. It was really really slow, but I think it set up an interesting story arc. I can see how alot of you may have been bored to tears by it. This type of show is a really tough watch.
If any of you are curious how it did in the ratings, It was AMC's highest rated Series Premiere ever in total viewers. 2M total viewers. The key word is "Series Premiere"

But, the 18-49 demos were awful though....0.3, which was the lowest of the evening among non-pay cable shows last Sunday.

It's slow moving yes, but I can't believe that AMC would put a bad show on the air
I'm confident it will get awesome once it gets moving.

Watching back to back I think made it seem slower then it really was. Yes it's a slow show but I actually enjoyed the 2 last week.

I am really enjoying this show so far. It helps to think of it as a long miniseries.

While it's not Mad Men or Breaking Bad quality, it still manages to keep my attention. I don't watch it live so skipping commercial breaks probably helps.
For how connected everything, and how big the conspiracy is, it's probably best that they take their time instead of trying to get things answered quickly which would probably require ignoring huge plot holes that would be created.
I'm glad his team got over all their drama last week because I thought those scenes were much better tonight. I liked the arguing over Grant's rant on a list of worst Presidents.

Didn't like the first two episodes, but decided to give it one more try ..... just the opening "previously on" was enough to demonstrate that the writers haven't figured out that there is a world of difference between intriguingly complex and annoyingly convoluted. This is one AMC show that will have to trudge along without me.

I'm trying to like this show, but it's really testing my patience. I try to give it my full attention and halfway through I'm surfing the web while watching.

Why is your computer on when watching a heavy dialogue-driven show? You know it's going to distract you. This isn't the kind of show where you can concentrate on the plot and surf the web at the same time.

I was part way thru the third episode when I realized that I really had no idea what the hell was going on, didn't care about the characters and life is too short to waste on this.

This show is quickly turning out to be a turkey. Each episode has gotten slower with less action. The pacing is just horrible, and the mystery is just not that intriguing. I like the main character so far, but that is about it. We have seen so few hints as to the overall purpose or scheme of the conspiracy. I will stick with it one more episode. The only moment I liked at all was when they broke the code using baseball dates, though the leap in logic made to get there was so random that it hurt the credibility of the writing.

Does anybody actually understand what made the initial crossword so special, or is it one of those things that's supposed to be significant, but they don't let the audience in on it? I mean, I understand the crosswords they referenced earlier were 'go codes' for assassinations, but if there's some secret branch of gov't, why would they send out a public clue that apparently does nothing but point to their existence?
Also, on the subject of clues, that dead guy is really helpful with his obscure clues about baseball player names and "They Hide in Plain Sight"...I'd think if you were sending a scrambled message, you'd want to be a little clearer once it was deciphered.
This show is also a good example of why forcing 3-dimensional characters can be a bad idea - almost every character has been clumsily given some kind of personal/family issue, before we can even remember their names. And nobody is an alcoholic *and* is estranged from their children *and* has trouble with an ex - they all conveniently only have 1 personal problem each.
