Salt (Noyce, 2010) — The Reviews Thread
Not a lot of interest, but who knows, could be fun.
Pre-release discussion here.
Movie:
"Salt" (Starring Angelina Jolie, Live Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Olbrychski)
Release Date:
7/23/2010
Rating:
PG-13 (for tantalizing sequences of Jolie’s lusciousness and subsequent young boys trips to the restroom, unfair comparisons to The Bourne Identity and constant mentions of "from the Director of Blind Fury" throughout.)
Running Time:
100min. (1h. 40m.)
IMDb Info and Rating:
6.7 (5,946 votes as of 8/01/10)
IMDb Link...
Rotten Tomatoes:
Fresh:89 Rotten:67 (57% as of 8/01/10)
RT Link...
Metacritic:
65 metascore ('Generally favorably reviews' as of 8/01/10)

Apparently Salt is tracking well and should open to $30 - $36m this weekend. Plus, Armond White didn't like it.

I might actually make a very rare trip to the theaters for this. I'm a sucker for Angelina Jolie, particularly her action movies.

I honestly don't seeing this doing more than $35-40 million this weekend, if not less due to Inception.
Inception will cross the $100 million mark on Thursday and doesn't seam like it'll take a huge drop at all moving into weekend two due to word of mouth. It had a 12% drop moving from Saturday-to-Sunday and a 47% drop from Sunday-to-Monday. As of now, it's similar to The Dark Knight's percentage drops.

Have no interest in this. I'm supposed to believe that an anorexic looking individual like Jolie can survive a jump out of a moving helicopter and splash into a body of water, survive a head on vehicular crash off a bridge, and fling grown ass men into plate glass windows? It was hard enough taking her seriously in Wanted.

Definitely going to check this out. Mostly because I like Kurt Wimmer's stuff.

I would be more interested in this if they had a more fresh and talented director behind it. I'm not knocking Philip Noyce, but if you look at his action film resume:
-Patriot Games
-Clear and Present Danger
-The Saint
he seems to only make action movies whose primary focus is the star and not the action itself. He's just a paint by the numbers filmmaker with nothing unique. I will say The Quiet American was good, but mostly due to Michael Caine.
I did have interest in this earlier this summer, but after Inception I have the feeling no other action movie I see this summer (maybe this year) will top it.

I saw an early screening of this yesterday, and thought it was pretty good. I thought it started slow but picked up steam towards the end. I'd give it a B-.

I think more people would want to see this with Angelina than if it originally had Tom Cruise. After I talked with co-workers that had seen a screening.. it seems like a mix of No Way Out/Bourne movies.

Unfortunately, it's not playing at the stadium seat theater a couple blocks from me.

no, he hasn't. i've noticed he constantly trolls the Reviews Threads by voting 0 stars a day or two prior to actual release, either that or he really has a penchant desire to give to the impoverished children in Africa.

I thought it was mediocre and that Roger Ebert is crazy.
That said I think people might want to up their box-office predictions a touch. If people are interested, it's going to be huge because my audience ate it up.

Well shot and professionally directed but it generally was a bit dull.
Angelina Jolie was fantastic, though. Loved

In the newest Entertainment Weekly, Liev Schrieber says the ending had major reshoots and he is not happy about them.

Re: Salt (Noyce, 2010) — The Reviews Thread
I thought it was good. The first hour was great but then it does devolve into a series of stupid moments - for a few minutes there though, I thought maybe Hollywood had made a movie with huge balls - then they puss'd out. Still, for just a mindless, fun action picture it delivers but I'd be interested to hear what the original ending was. Jolie was decent and I appreciated that a lot of the action was done with practical effects but definitely check your brain at the door. 3.5/5
