Guess Netflix's Top 10 Rented Movies of All-Time
Just stumbled across this little bit of trivia and thought people here might have some opinions on this list. This is the top 10 rented movies of all time by Netflix. Granted Netflix has around been around recently and all the movies are from the past 5 years, but there is definitely some weird tastes from the general movie-watching public. I think this lists shows the inherent differences between J6P and most people here on DVDTalk.
The Top 10 are:

Whatever... I don't think this matters much. Most of the bad movies on this list are probably there because people had some curiousity in them and didn't want to risk a blind purchase.
Or maybe I'm wrong and people just really want to see some bad movies. Only a few of these are any good.

Most I can understand, but Crash has been on the top of the list forever it seems.
Also it makes sense for no kids movies to be on there, as those are always big sellers so most parents would just end up buying them anyways.

Crash, from what I understand, is highly listed because it's one of those movies people tend to keep and/or re-rent -- intending to watch it eventually.

I've rented 7, seen 2 during theatrical release, and have no interest in the remaining one.

LOL I guess I'm partly responsible for that list then, since I rented 8 out of the 10. The other 2 ('Iron Man' and 'Benjamin Button' I saw theatrically).

OP should have put, "guess before looking" in the thread title.
I guessed first, made a list of 10, and was 0 for 10.
I think my list would be better in a list of the top selling DVDs of all-time, stuff like Matrix, Titanic, and Star Wars.
Of the list own most of them, have seen the others, except for maybe The Bucket List and The Pursuit of Happyness, which I plan to buy when I find them for a couple bucks.

Given the movie-watching taste of the American people, that's a surprisingly palatable list of movies.

The Bucket List and Proposal are the only ones i haven't watched or rented. Not sure what is so bad about the list.

The Top 10 are:
1. 'Crash' (2005)
2. 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' (2008)
3. 'The Bucket List' (2007)
4. 'The Departed' (2006)
5. 'Iron Man' (2008)
6. 'No Country for Old Men' (2007)
7. 'The Pursuit of Happyness' (2006)
8. 'The Proposal' (2009)
9. 'Gran Torino' (2008)
10. 'Casino Royale' (2006)
I don't rent, so the movies above are ones I saw in theaters and/or bought.

Only one I can think of as possibly universally "bad" is The Proposal, and that was actually decent for a romcom.

I look at that list and it makes sense to me. A few of 'em are ones that people have a love/hate relationship with, so I can see where friends might recommend to others to rent first/buy later.

Re: Netflix's Top 10 Rented Movies of All-Time
Of those ten I rented 3: Crash, Benjamin Button and Gran Torino. Crash sucked, Benjamin Button was alright (but took me 2 days to get through) and I didn't care for Gran Torino so I'm glad I rented instead of buying.
I'm actually surprised to see Iron Man on there. That one seems like it would fall under the "seen it theatrically" or "definite blind buy" categories, not a "rent" category.

A rental list is really no judge. I'll put just about anything in my rental queue. It has to really get scathing reviews before I won't even bother seeing it once as a rental

Yeah, I have to completely agree. Aside from Crash, The Bucket List, and The Proposal, the rest are at the very least O.K. and the majority are good to great. I don't see how that particular list could be damning of America's taste.

wow, Crash.
well, many people DO have bad-movie nights. i usually choose the more campy, tongue-in-cheekers, but Crash will do.

Re: Netflix's Top 10 Rented Movies of All-Time
I've only seen 3 on the list: The Departed (rented), Iron Man (own it), and Casino Royale (own it). Oddly enough, I own Crash but still have never sat down to watch it.
I suppose that one must keep in mind how relatively short Netflix's existence has been. I would be much more interested in seeing this list from Family Video or even Blockbuster.
