WB Chaplin DVDs

YMMV but wbshop.com has some of those WB Chaplin DVDs in stock. They are increasingly difficult to find and places like Amazon, DVD Empire, and Deep Discount don't have them in stock. Prices for them can be on the astronomical side on eBay or the Amazon Marketplace.

Go here: http://www.wbshop.com/on/demandware....Show?q=chaplin

For instance, volume 1 of the Chaplin Collection is $47. On the Amazon Marketplace, a new copy is ranges from ~180-800 bucks. There's one on eBay for $175.

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

Just a heads up, Criterion is set to begin releasing Chaplin titles over the next few years, which may account for the difficulty in finding some of these.

Maybe it's time for me to sell mine if Criterion has the rights now.

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

Wonder if the Criterion releases will include the extras found on these? The only WB releases I was interested in picking up was The Gold Rush (for the inclusion of the original version) and the Charlie documentary. Some of the other documentary/featurettes sound interesting tho.

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

I got the Chaplin Collection Vol 1 for $47 and it shipped free via UPS. Those Criterions don't seem imminent and if the extras on these appeal to you, I'd say go for it.

I originally thought the listings were errors and my order would be canceled, but it shipped. It's kind of strange that wbshop.com has these but practically nobody else does anymore besides eBay and Marketplace type sellers.

The Chaplin Collection Vol 1 has now changed from ships within 1 business day to within 7 business days.

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

The Chaplin Collection Vol 1 and Vol 2 are now listed as out of stock. Those went quick.

Some single discs remain.

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

these releases are fantastic in the extras department, but the PAL-ported transfers aren't quite up to snuff IMO.

My order for Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 came up with an additional 25% off for being a member of the WB Insider Rewards:

LINK

I think it helps if you use the same login/password as your wbshop.com account. Once you join (no charge) the WB Insider Rewards, you should be able to login to your wbshop.com account and the discount should apply. Note that you typically won't see the discount until you actually view a specific product, so if you just look at the page that shows all the Chaplin items, you'll still see Vol. 1 @ $47 and Vol. 2 @ $61.19. If you click on each item, it should show the lower pricing of $35.25 and $45.89 respectively.

I've sold a few of mine at a nice profit. Anticipate a nice deluxe set through Criterion.

I've thought about selling mine, but they're pretty nice sets with lots of extras, doubt Criterion's will carry much of those over.

Got that too since I'm an insider rewards member too and now I'm getting an additional 15%. I'm tempted to buy another set.

From what I heard, all of it.

"Janus Films has been able to acquire the rights to the entire Charlie Chaplin film catalogue... The films will be getting new 35mm prints [and shown in theaters]... [So far, nothing has] been said about a DVD release of these films."

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

Does anyone know if Schickel's CHARLIE documentary was ever issued by itself, or is it available only as part of one these sets?

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

I've been waiting for the original Chaplin collection to drop in price (was happy to see the Harold Lloyd to drop and picked that one up a few months ago) but to no avail. As for the Janus films, there was an image they had. I'd post it but I can't link just yet to the image (still a new member).

I think you're just one post away, so expect your next post to be a really worthwhile pic.

Re: WB Chaplin DVDs

Seems like some of these titles (the 2 Collections and City Lights) have been removed from wbshop.

R the IMAGE releases of the Chaplin features better than Warners? If so, I might pick up those instead.

There are pros and cons to both releases. There is cropping and PAL speedup on the Warners. But there are more extras on the Warners. There are plenty of opinions to be found but DVD Beaver does a great job comparing the releases. Here are a few:
