Last year they presented Pink Floyd's the Wall on dvd, but this is the first time i've noticed them actually acknowlodging that they're using dvd's. I wonder if they will mention it for all screenings

The donner cut of Superman II makes sense. I'm pretty sure the restoration was done on video. There is no 35 mm version.

Legend has really stunning visuals even though i never saw the movie i saw maybe a few seconds of the main character's back walking through some trees which seem to be flickering or something all around him and the music was also really awesome.

Dumb question, but how do you show a DVD in a movie theater?

I would never pay to see a film presented on DVD in a theater. It just feels so unnatural when you're watching it on the screen. I used to go to Three Stooges festivals in my old hometown every year and they stopped showing 35MM prints of the shorts because switching to the DVD format cost them nothing (in comparison to tracking down old prints and paying to rent them, etc.). I stopped going after that because it went from "for the fans" to "let's hose the fans".
I'm surprised a theater like the AFI Silver would even do that. Choose different films if you can't find original prints.

Wait wait wait. Where is the "projector" going to be, in the 10th row of the theater? They better not charge more than a few bucks for something like this. Hell, it should be FREE!

With a DVD player.
It sits right next to the 35mm and/or DLP projector. You know, it's the one they show the "Regal/AMC/Cinemark First Look" with.

It would be so awesome to see The Empire Strikes Back and Back to the Future on 35mm. Too bad I'm about as far away from D.C. as an American can get.

pissed that 'Empire' was only shown once - was wondering if they had shown it in 35mm as well, I'm assuming they might have, but with the Silver having DLP systems on all there screens, Fox could have easily sent them a harddrive of the movie.
saw 'Legend' last Thursday - a movie meant to be seen on the large screen - to bad it was the US cut and not the 116min director's cut - but that version wasn't released in the 80's was it now?
I think they have to denote when a film is sourced from a dvd, since they got tremendous shit for not publizing it in the past. A couple of films at prior European Union showcases were sourced from DVD's
The presentation of Superman II is actually being denoted as being sourced from the bluray, not the DVD.
