what are the next musicals?
I must admit the last musical 'Nine' was both a critical and audience humdinger and might have done more harm than intended to the genre, but I'd like to know what future musicals we can expect?
what's the statues of the remake musical version of 'Footloose'?
sadly the rumour that John Landis' was doing a film version of 'Batboy: The Musical' was just that, a rumour
supposedly, 'Miss Saigon' and Andrew Lloyd Webber's version of 'Sunset Boulevard' are in some sort of development.
??

Footlose signed a bunch of people last week, including Dennis Quaid

Also, while not a new production, the Grease Sing-a-long is coming out in a few weeks

Re: what are the next musicals?
Patti luPone is still pretty livid over the whole 'Sunset Boulevard' London to Broadway debacle (and the show itself). On a side note, the Signature Theatre in Arlington Virginia,(which won the regional theatre Tony in 2009) are doing upcoming productions of Chess (in August ) and Sunset Boulevard starting in December - a recent production of Les Miserables was amazing!

Re: what are the next musicals?
now is the new version of Footloose - the musical theatre version or an entirely new version? - the recent remake of Fame which I thought would have been the 'theatre' version, wasn't and quite frankly sucked.
someone should do a new version of Hair - the 1979 movie is a walking abortion in my mind - the recent Broadway revival was utterly fantastic.

Re: what are the next musicals?
Here's what Brewer said when he was announced as director:
I should also say the cynic in me isn't entirely sure the film will actually happen. Two leads (Zac Efron and Chace Crawford) already dropped out and they've been replaced with a no-name. But we'll see.
“I saw ‘Footloose’ in my hometown theater when I was 13-years-old and it rocked my world. It was a teenage rebellion movie that explored the struggles of faith and family in a small town, and it had an awesome soundtrack. I can promise ‘Footloose’ fans that I will be true to the spirit of the original film. But I still gotta put my own Southern grit into it and kick it into 2011,” Craig Brewer said in a press release. "It's going to be a blast!"

Re: what are the next musicals?
supposedly it's still 'in preproduction' according to imdb, but that in itself is no guarentee. With Catherine Zeta Jones and Ray Winstone, the music by Guided By Voices and set in the 1920 one article states it will be 'like Las Vegas meets Tommy' - oh boy, that an endorsement!!!
