This has been reviewed as a Grey's Anatomy formula burn off, similar to the Deep End. Full of stereotypes and cliches. The leads are strong enough, but we have seen it all before. The one thing positive is the pilot is romance free, which is relief for this formula.

From the above link. This is a stunning endorsement by the network that is broadcasting it
ABC News says:
… at its core, "Rookie" is a terrible show. …

It wasn't a review by ABC News, but was a reprint from The Hollywood Reporter via Reuters.
Of course that doesn't make the show any better.

Peregrym and Smith are enough to get me to watch but it'll have to at least have a guilty pleasure factor to keep me watching past the first 2 episodes.

I guess I'll give it a shot but I don't have high hopes for it. The reviews I've read are definitely not positive.

I'll check this out. I'm not expecting "Southland" or anything like that, but seeing as I picked up "Everwood" seasons 2 and 3 this afternoon, gotta stay loyal.
Peregrym is someone I've seen plenty of times, but only in previews or trailers for things, never the actual show or movie.
From that preview linked above, the police cars are clearly from the Toronto Police Service.

If i had just apprehended a felony murder suspect, and had the weapon in my possession, i would be sure to carry it like a turd, and also not remove the magazine or rack the slide back. Apparently their academy teaches different things to the boys than the girls.
I have to respect a show that doesn't even make an attempt at being realistic in this day and age. i will watch this drivel because it has pretty girls, and will be gone soon.

Ratings for premiere:
7.2M viewers and 2.0 in demos. Not bad for a summer/Canadian filler show. That's actually higher than pretty much most of the 2nd half of FlashFoward last season. If it keeps these numbers, it could be on the schedule again next summer.

Going to have to watch this on Hulu.com later. My DVR was getting full and only recorded 50 of the 60 minutes.

Re: Rookie Blue -- New Series -- "Fresh Paint" -- 06/24/10
It's funny, they digitally blanked out all instances of the word "Toronto" on the police cars.
There were several areas that made it just too clear that if it doesn't specifically say it takes place in Toronto, they clearly film there because not only were street signs recognizable (Queen St E, Front St near the Kensington Market being the two most obvious) but they were not making up street names identifying their locations, but using actual Toronto street names.
Contrast that with "The Bridge", a CBS-produced Canadian show (that aired its first season here on CTV but still not on CBS yet) that explicitly takes place in Toronto, and that uses completely fictional logos, cars, street names, everything. Very strange choices.
One more thing, I guess Gregory Smith just prefers that shaggy-in-front Ephram Brown hairstyle he had on "Everwood", and it's been a few years.

The only reason I checked this out was because it had Missy from Reaper. It got me off-guard when I heard them call her Andi (which was also her name in Reaper). I thought this was pretty bad, but Ill give it another shot.

OK, the fact that it's Canadian explains some things. Like a cop needing permission to take his gun home. Dozens of other little things that made me think the writers had never even met real cops.
Still crap, but interesting to see the differences.

Okay, that was a pretty bad Pilot. Missy Peregrym was the strongest actor of the entire cast, but still wasn't really believable as a rookie cop. To me she seemed more like a pretty sorority girl dressed up as a cop. A far superior show Southland with Ben McKenzie also as a rookie cop felt much more real & gritty it's 1st episode when McKenzie's character Ben Sherman also started his 1st day on the job.
The tone of the show feels like Grey's Anatomy in the Police force as some have mentioned here.
Definitely not something that is "Must see" for the summer. But, I'll try again next week and see if it improves.
I really hope it doesn't head in that direction, but I'm predicting some kind of love triangle with Andi, the pretty boy blonde detective and that undercover cop that Andi busted.

I finally got around to seeing the first couple episodes and I guess I am in the minority because I thought it was pretty good!

I just did the same. There's certainly worse things on. The only annoying thing is that it is so obviously shot in Canada. They don't even attempt to set it in any real American city.
