The Phantom -- 4 Hour Movie Event -- Premieres 06/20/10
Synopsis:
Before Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman, there was The Phantom, the greatest legend in the annals of 20th century comic-book crime fighting. Now, the immortal superhero returns to strike terror in the hearts of villains around the world - and to inspire a new generation to believe in the Ghost Who Walks.
Four hundred years ago, Kit Walker, sole survivor of a pirate raid, washed up on a remote Bangalla beach. Fashioning a costume from a pirate's plunder, Kit became The Phantom, devoting himself to fighting injustice. Today, handsome young Kit, twenty-first in the family line, is living in the States with his aunt and uncle when his father is killed at the hands of the Singh Brotherhood in Bangalla. Kit says goodbye to his life as a free-spirited youth, returns to the mysterious Skull Cave of his ancestors, utters the sacred oath of generations, and inherits the mantle of his father.
Ryan Carnes (Desperate Housewives/Dr. Who) stars as The Phantom and his alter ego in this re-imagined version of the classic comic book transported to present day. Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet) guest stars as Lithia, the head of an experimental mind control program. Also starring are Sandrine Holt (24/The L Word) as The Phantom's trusted advisor, and Cameron Goodman as Walker's love interest, Renny. Paolo Barzman (The Last Templar) directs.

Yes, this is an updated version of the comic character that Billy Zane played back in 1996. This is produced by the folks at RHI Entertainment (who make alot of SyFy movies), so it's probably 30-70 that it will actually be good.
Airs tonight from 7pm to 11pm.

Wow, yeah, what's the use of putting the old costume in just to laugh at it when the new one is exponentially more terrible?
This looks like complete garbage.

At least they'll win a lot of 'most ridiculous costume' awards.
It really does look like a joke.

I figured this would get a few meh's from you all. Plus, it's 4 hours!!
I'll DVR it, but not sure when I will have the time to sit through it.

The Phantom is less interesting to me than The Shadow, but I still think that the character could work on film if done right. This isn't it.

I'm curious about this movie but I honestly don't think I can commit to a 4-hour long syfy original movie...

I can barely handle a 30 minute "syfy" original much less 4 hours. Did they really think that it needed to be 4 hours? And the title syfy for some reason brings thoughts of some kind of venereal disease.

As far as the 4 hours running time, syfy dumped it:

Here’s a sign that the new television version of The Phantom isn’t getting much love from Syfy:
The network has scheduled all four hours of the mini-series revival on the same night – and it’s a Sunday. The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that the entire series will air on June 20th, starting at 7pm.
Here’s hoping The Ghost That Walks has more legs than his network are assuming.

He reminds me of the Daredevil from the Hulk TV special.

It's funny how around 5 or 6 years ago a producer said they were going to do a new Phantom movie with "matrix style" moves, and now that project is relegated to a TV movie.

Unless this will be On Demand I will miss it entirely. I DVRed Scoundrels and Gates and completely forgot about this. It might have been good for a few chuckles.

Not nearly as bad as I was expecting I was expecting something on the level of dinoCroc Vs megaCroc but instead of a C or D grade scifi movie we got a B grade scifi movie. Once you get past the costume suckage the moive is kinda ok. But yes the costume sucks big time. I'll never stop thinking how bad it looks

This was better than i expected. I would probably have watched if this had been a series. Was better than Flash Gordon and it got a full season.
