Most Haunted (Travel Channel)

As a ghost show junkie, I must admit I have a love/hate relationship with this British TV series - it's both intriguing but also very frustrating. The one thing I can't stand is that unlike other 'Ghost' shows - Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, Destination Truth (when they do haunted locations) and another show which I'm drawing a blank on, there is little to no actual use of technology to capture what they hope to encounter - there's the occasional audio capture, but very little actual video evidence. Using psychics and seances just come across as cheesy and not that valid in my opinion, undervalues the investigations. The group never uses EVP or even heat cameras - considering they conduct the investigations in a large group they come across as loopy, and easily scarible - they swear like sailors which result in major audio censoring and masking any and all possible evidence.

The plus of the show, since it travels to many sites in the United Kingdom, the history is diverse and fascinating. Also Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe is always a trip since he's the pessimist and tries to keep the haunting's in some of sort of reality, and he rarely freaks out and acts like a complete ninny like his other investigators usually digress to.

Any other fans of the show?

Hey Giles! My favorites of these shows are Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters. Have you seen the one show with the muscular dude who is such an obnoxious douche? I wish a spirit would sling his ass against a wall.

I've not seen Paranormal State, but looking at the show's website - intrigues me. As for the show that I'm forgetting, it's got two brothers and at least three other investigators one of whom is a woman who looks like an older 'Luna Lovegood' (Harry Potter reference) - the other guys are hairy bearish bunch who actually use scientific theories and instruments to validate supposed hauntings.

Meh. I watched Most Haunted several years ago, but was turned off by the several controversies surrounding the show. Hint: if you're going to make shit up and laugh about it on camera, make sure to delete that footage before it leaks somewhere. Even without that, the show seemed silly. A 400 year-old house in the English countryside makes odd noises? NO WAY! And it's scary to be there at night with the lights off? YOU DON'T SAY!

Still, I sometimes watch old episodes of the show around Halloween, just 'cos I like to get scared. You know, turn off all the lights and get comfy on the sofa and turn it on...

I shouldn't admit this but I can't help myself with Ghost Adventures.

"Hey bro... that ghost just totally touched me bro. Feel my goosebumps"

He is a complete pussy. It's awesome.

from the wiki link:

"After many viewer complaints, the Television Regulator in the UK, Ofcom, cleared Most Haunted of any deception of its viewers, and ruled that Most Haunted is an entertainment show, not a legitimate investigation into the paranormal, and should not be taken seriously"

awwww

Is this another one of those 'they go into the dark and one of them will pretend to hear or see something and then they all act excited' things?

I'll start watching when one of them takes a knife and starts stabbing the other one in a spirit-induced supernatural rage.

I've watched the show for years but like some of you mentioned, it's really hit or miss. I think they take way too many people on the investigations. No EVP evidence is ever used. The production is a bit too slick and edited as well. With that being said, the history of each location is, indeed, fascinating and I kinda dig the psychic "walk-through" segment(s). Oh, and the hairdresser Kat is the most annoying chick on ANY show....

Ghost Adventures is my absolute favorite. September sees the new season begin.
