Re: Something Wild coming from Criterion

Really weird decision by Criterion to release this film. I know is from Demme, but is not that good of a film.

Re: Something Wild coming from Criterion

I found it mildly enjoyable, but definitely nothing that would reward repeat viewings. Melanie Griffith is really painful to listen to, as always. Great soundtrack though.

Love this movie. An unlikely but worthy Criterion contender.

80's Melanie Griffith on Blu-ray

Hasn't been confirmed as Blu-ray, though that does seem likely. Ray Liotta is truly terrifying in this film. What ever happened to him?

Day one, if its on Blu. I still have memories of seeing Melanie naked at such a tender age.

Re: Something Wild coming from Criterion

I can't watch the video at work, but did they specifically mention that it was the Demme one? If not, then it's likely to be this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somethi...281961_film%29

It's never been released on any home formats, but it's been shown at the IFC film center, and Criterion has been releasing IFC films lately.

Definitely an odd choice. Am curious to see what additional material will be included though.

Then this is a very strange choice.

Re: Something Wild coming from Criterion

Great film with cult appeal. I'm not surprised at all that Criterion is releasing this. I only wish there was a better Soundtrack release as well, that includes all of the tracks featured in the movie.

I'm happy to hear people luke warm on this film, most places I see it get lawded to the heavens. I think it's really lop sided and it borrows too much from Blue Velvet.

My wallet always breathes a sigh of relief in those rare instances when a new Criterion title is not in the least tempting to me.....

i don't know how that can really be the case since it was released a few weeks after 'Blue Velvet.'

It's more of a piece with the yuppie guy gets mixed up with trouble vibe of 'After Hours' or 'Into The Night.' And those movies don't feature The Feelies.

Don't you mean The Willies?

(But, seriously, if I even met Jonathan Demme in person, I would have to thank him for introducing me to The Feelies via his movies.)

Re: Something Wild coming from Criterion

They should listen to their fans. "Matinee." We all want that one to happen. "Something Wild" was a cool small film for a few years but no one cares much now.

Weird choice for Criterion. Not a fan of the movie at all, & never found Melanie even slightly hot. She is rather annoying and an awful actress.

It's that voice more than anything - it pierces your very soul. She's easy on the eyes though, if not the ears. She would have made a decent silent film actress, but would have been ruined by the arrival of talkies.

Ditto for "Matinee". "Something Wild" I remember seeing parts of it years ago on TBS or TNT, don't remember, and thought it was OK, but I'd have to see it again all the way through to really decide to add this title to my collection...
