Goonies Ultimate Collector's Edition and Blu-Ray November 2, 2010
"The Goonies" are back.
The iconic 80's adventure film is getting the star treatment for its 25th anniversary, with a first-time Blu-ray release and an Ultimate Collector's Edition due November 2.

From the Article:
Bonus features will include deleted scenes, a "Making of" documentary, commentary from Donner and the entire cast, and the Cyndi Lauper music video, "The Goonies 'R Good Enough."
Also, apparently there is a 25th anniversary celebration at Astoria, OR this weekend:

And there is a retrospective documentary that will be available for purchase soon. Check out the website for more info and a trailer:

Im getting the blu-ray even if it doesnt have new content. The packaging alone should be worth the upgrade as well as the pq hopefully.

I was interested in the documentary but can't bring myself to spend $16 plus shipping for a 24 minute feature.

This is Warners, so they will screw it up royally. It sounds like the same package with just a nifty title. Those features are the same ones on the old release. Warners really dropped the ball on this one big time. Anyone surprised?. Maybe they will get it right for the 30th anniversary. There was so much they could of done. "The Monster Squad", which has been called "Goonies with monsters", got a feature length documentary, and other few goodies, so why can't The Goonies?. There could of been a new "Making Of" documenatry. There could of been featurettes on Astoria/filming locations/the impact of the movie; the fans and the long lasting appeal of the movie; music; effects and so on. They could of had a featurette on the 25th anniversary happening in Astoria. They could of thrown that 24 minute docu on there too.
Sounds like an "Ultimate Collector's Edition" that is anything but. I hope I am wrong, but I have learned to be continuously disappointed with WB. Thanks for dropping the ball yet again, Warners.

Cool looking release, but I don't need all that extra stuff.
I held off getting the DVD, so I'll probably pick up the UK BD sometime in the future.

Crap. I already got the UK edition assuming the UCE would follow the trend of the past WB UCEs I fell for with crap I didn't really want... But, if that 1985 souvenier magazine is what I think it is, the nostalgia value alone is going to make me fall for it. Or I'll just grab it off of Ebay at some point... I am getting tired of these "big box" CEs that take up so much space... I feel like an idiot everytime I see that "I Am Legend" UCE sitting on my shelf.

I'm kinda annoyed that this is the 25th Anniversary collection and Warner Brothers couldn't even add a single special feature that isn't 10 years old. It's going to be kinda odd watching the commentary no and having everyone talk about "the lord of the ring movies that are coming out soon"

As much as I'm disappointed that Warners hasn't added any new features to the release, at the same time, I never picked up the DVD, so I might as well grab the Blu-Ray when it's released.

Yeah, it's a good pick-up if you don't already have the movie. If you do, and have been wanting a real special release, then this is a terrible disappointment.

I've had the German Blu-ray for some time and I was a bit underwhelmed by the transfer. I was expecting a sparkling, 3D-like HD experience.
The print was clean and solid but yeah, missing that special HD magic.
Unless Warner improves on the transfer for the 25th Anniversary Edition I won't be double dipping.
