Are We There Yet? (TV Series) Thread Starts 06/02/10 at 9pm on TBS

Are We There Yet? is an upcoming American television sitcom, set to premiere on TBS on June 2, 2010. Based on the 2005 feature film of the same name, it revolves around a family adjusting to the new addition of the matriarch's new husband and trying to deal with normal family situations. Ice Cube serves as the show's executive producer.

The series centers on the Kingston-Persons family, a blended family facing the challenges of everyday life and the trials of a new blended family trying to get adjusted with one another. Nick Persons (Terry Crews) and Suzanne Kingston (Essence Atkins) have been newlyweds for six months, and their family is already beginning to show growing pains. Nick, a former athlete, has traded his job at a sports memorabilia shop he owned for a job in information technology and is trying to figure out his role in the family; while Suzanne, who has two children: 14-year-old daughter Lindsey and 10-year-old son Kevin, from a previous relationship, also works a very hectic schedule as a party planner. Nick's mother (Telma Hopkins) is not happy about her son's recent marriage or her new role as a grandmother, and has a hard time getting along with her new daughter-in-law. The series draws its humor from the everyday family situations.

Cast
Terry Crews as Nick Persons
Essence Atkins as Suzanne Kingston-Persons
Teala Dunn as Lindsey Kingston
Coy Stewart as Kevin Kingston
Christian Finnegan as Martin
Keesha Sharp as Gigi
Telma Hopkins as Marilyn Persons

The roles of the Nick Persons, Suzanne Kingston, her two children, and Nick's friend Martin were recast for the series. The only cast member from the original film and its 2007 sequel Are We Done Yet? that will appear in the series is the show's executive producer Ice Cube, who played Nick Persons in the films, though he is set to appear in a recurring role as Terrence, the brother of Suzanne.

TBS greenlit the series in June 2009 for a 10 episode order, with the option to extend the episode order to 90 episodes. Unlike most sitcoms, the production of Are We There Yet? runs on a schedule which allows three episodes to be filmed over the course of a one week period, where as it takes roughly 7-8 months to film an entire 22-episode season of a sitcom.

"With the option to extend order to 90 episodes"

How the hell did they create contract language to go from 10 episodes to up to 90?

They did the same thing with the Tyler Perry shows, if memory serves.

These shows have to be cheap to produce, so maybe its not too much of a stretch for them?

That girl sitting next to Terry has one MASSIVE head. Like someone photoshopped her head onto a kids body.

Same here. Thats why I was shocked to learn she is already 38. She was much older than the character she was playing.

Essence is super hot, Ice Cube's character is funny, but that's about it, so far.

Seeing Ice Cube makes me miss the days when he was rapping about capping some fool and smacking a bitch.

I'm assuming TBS is following the same guidelines / production that's allowing a show like House of Payne, which has only been on the air for three years, but has 145 episodes so far under its belt. Tyler Perry’s latest show, Meet the Browns, has been on the network for a little bit more than a year and has already put out 90 episodes.
